Hi all,I just got a letter from Ken Wyatt federal liberal member. They asked centrelink for the ruling on portabilty of pensions and whether if you are out of the country before 65 you can get portabilty. Answer is if your out of the country for in my case 3 years before the pension age, you have to wait in Australia 2 years before its portable. I will try and post this letter after i scan it. I have received a Letter from the honourable Christian Porter. It refers to Pensioners again as being on Welfare and not as an entitlement .Have a read its a good laugh considering what Hockey is getting. Attachments:

It tells us nothing that we do not already know.

I was just being polite and letting people read these letters. But after today's budget announcement it pails in insignificance

Sorry if you thought that I was suggesting you posting the letter was a waste of time Dave, they never are. Politicians seem to tell you nothing now, particularly if they are in government, it's like they have stock replies in their file and they just go... "pension inquiry? press button B". I meant that there is still no realistic information on how they define returning residents, they just make it up as they go along.

I still recall the screeching headlines in chip wrappers like "7500" DSP living overseas on a permanent holiday. It then went on to quote the then Minister Andrews saying the gummit would "claw back" 12.5 million bucks over 3 years. 12 million? ? What it did do though was require many souls to be re assessed who were then found to actually BE severely disabled under the new tables and therefore UP was granted. What was the cost of that whole exercise? This all started under Minister Macklin with the same headline and a photo of young men in Bali surfing, implying that DSP recipients were those. It again drew more traction when Abbott used to refer to young men on DSP going to the middle east to do dreadful deeds. An ABC fact check found in fact not one person who had left Aust to participate in those activities was on DSP before they left and indeed if they were, their payment ceased after 6 weeks anyway. Further into that original aticle it refered to some 82,000 OAP recipients living overseas and recieving payments. Although we will never know, as it wasnt deemed useful for a headline, was the fact senate estimates advised govt that bringing back all those 82,000 by threat of cutting off payment would in fact save nothing BUT in fact further exacerbate medical costs; housing; transport and other infrastructure needs for them. It seems to have been swept away as too hard and too stupid. Some in govt thought by altering the UP rules, those receiving payments would simply drop out of the system, as it was the incorrect assumption of both Labor and LNP govts, that these people had a mysterious form of income over and above the pittance paid in OAP and DSP. The simple fact that cutting off the payment while away was going to force those to return and still have that payment slipped their minds. The saving was nothing and the extra cost was going to be enormous. I can say this as I was in small business, and as such, I was clueless to how the broader social fabric of the greater need of how a society operates. Those from the LNP side of politics who have entered office are typical of small business, as they have no idea outside their own small areas of operation. They scream for smaller govt, yet in times of hardship or downturn, then scream for govt to spend to allow them to continue to operate and employ people. That is the role of govt, and it is important from a macro sense for the public sector in times of contraction in the private one, to stimulate it, as to otherwise not, would see those small business owners cease to exist. And when we have a situation where a recession occurs, all govt revenue via taxation falls back . Indeed, most of those in govt from the small business attitude look at a countries economy with debt in the same light as they do for their micro economy which is their business. Its not like that, as a country invests in infrastructure which is education, roads, medicine etc to provide the conduit so those to come in the future who will have small businesses can use that infrastructure. That is why its imperitive for a country to have a strong taxation system to gain the revenue to allow it future small business people to thrive and empoly others.

I still recall the screeching headlines in chip wrappers. I don't believe in conspiracy sagas but I will listen to them, if required. An old, weather beaten, saw miller once said to me, "Labor gets in to do what the Liberals can't do and the Liberals get in to do what Labor can't do. Either way we are fu*ked!"

Its Ok Banjo, Facebook pensioners are really starting to find out how bad this government is. Its taken them a while.
I just got a knock back from centrelink for the unemployment benefit. I am just over the asset limit. This time round they are making me fill in another form for a health care card .They never did that last time they just gave me one as I am still Low paid. On this form though they have a question about living over seas or on holidays since 1994. Then they ask for your Passport no etc. They already no all of my trips but it is a worry that they are going down this track. I am just keeping you informed as I never did this before.

OK, I'm a bit confused about you failing the assets test but no doubt this will become clear as you find out more.

ah, Tone Abbott, the gift that keeps on giving. Some rather clever person commented on The Guardian today that why dosnt Abbott and his mates {Andrews, Bernadi, Abetz and his latest star Andrew Hastie} just run off and form their own party. The incarnation of BS Santamarias DLP which the above are all sleepers of and installed into the LNP many years ago as young turks ( oops, in meant jerks) It would effecively wipe them all out, weaken the LNP vote and deliver us an ALP govt. Hastie I should add was one of the 2 LNP members who was called by ASIO and told to tone it down. Not bad for a new member of parliament who has been there for3 seconds and is being told by ASIO to button it.

The LNP seems to be full of right wing fanatics hell bent on discriminating against the ,as they call them people on some sort of Welfare and over 50. They want complete control of your life by way of the dollar. The user pays mentality. I had a young one tell me why should he pay me a pension overseas. I said because I paid for your education ,medical expenses and family payments thru my Tax when I was your age. Now its your turn to repay me.They seem to think you are rich living over seas. Not living on basic pension that goes a lot further than in Australia. Thanks to the Media they think exactly that
