ok thanks Banjo, I was just wondering what sandycreekg meant by "UP" ? I assumed unemployment pension but it's probably something to do with "portability" of his pension i guess.

UP is what we call Unlimited Portability of the Disability Support Pension, the goal for most of our members. Also referred to as Indefinite Portability in some circles, merely two terms for the same thing.

Beats me, I don't know much at all about the agreement with the US, aussieinusa might have an idea. chris, I have claimed under the int'l agreement once, though it was a long time ago. IIRC, it was a lot less than the full Aussie pension rate. I think the agreement says you get the lower of either the Aus or local pension rate, and US pension is WAY less than here. That's off the top of my head, though. And I had surgery four days ago so my head is full of painkillers still. Sorry.

Aussieinusa is now our IT manager bringing much needed tech skills to the team. Keeping members posts withing the bounds of polite behaviour is still in the hands of scallywag and myself.

Hi Banjo..Why do they let you live in the Philippines on UP on DSP and not insist it must be an agreed country ?

It's a different system intended to allow pensioners who did not qualify for an agreement country to live overseas.

Does anybody have any suggestions or comments on buying land overseas...especially the philippines........I have some close contacts around Valencia near Dumaguete who can get me land for about $5 a suare metre and can be bought in a foreigners name.
I do not own a house or land in Australia and have rented the last 15 yrs. I am currently going through the UP application process and would hopefully be able to stay long term overseas.
Is there any way centrelink could throw a spanner in the works with some thing like this.......??.......if I bought some land there I would eventually build a small simple dwelling.
With the continual changes in policy and regulations not so sure if this is a good idea.

Who knows the circumstances, it could be a nice once a year holiday house where maybe some people he cares about can stay.
