Guys, I hear some grumbling complaints over the latest DSP/OAP raise....$30/month is good living here, sure we have in inflation and concerns about the exchange rate, but I'll take the $30 (near 1200 pesos) and worry about the rest later. Im not sure if you got it wrong But my interpretation is only the OAP is indexed 2 times per year Not the DSP. Banjo can you confirm this

Fed govt boosts pension payment THE federal government has announced a boost to pension payments to help 3.6 million pensioners keep pace with rising living costs. The increase to pension payments will come into effect on March 20 and is aimed at helping pensioners keep up with rises in cost of living expenses, the federal government says. Federal Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews said the payment rise had been driven by the consumer price index increase of 1.9 per cent for the first six months to December 2013. "The coalition government is pleased to deliver increases to those on the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment and veterans' income support," Mr Andrews said on Sunday. He signalled another increase would occur in September to reflect growth in the CPI or the Pensioner and Beneficiary Living Cost Index, whichever is higher. I was calculating $15.90 twice monthly, not yet factoring the next CPI raise in Sept. And I was saying that living overseas, $30 is a nice little boost.

It's nearly a week's rent for some people, I've seen some quite nice little places for 4000B a month.

You need to load the photo onto a online album like Flickr or PhotoBucket. Then you "copy image location" by right clicking on it and paste the result into "Insert image" which is the 6th icon from the right.

My understanding is the rise is for DSP also, but there are rumblings, such rises will only apply to OAP in the future, May budget will be interesting to say the least.

My understanding is that the payments for the "Invalid Pension" and the Age Pension were locked into the legislation and treating one differently from the other would involve changing the legislation.

My understanding is that the payments for the "Invalid Pension" and the Age Pension were locked into the legislation and treating one differently from the other would involve changing the legislation. Invalid and Aged Pension are tied in the Constitution. To delink them would require a referendum. OR Change the name of Invalid to Disability Support Pension and then start talking about a Disability Insurance type Scheme.

It's not something they can just write up themselves and declare it to be so then.

It's not something they can just write up themselves and declare it to be so then. It's why 'they' hate DSP/invalid pensioners. And why 'they' will keep raising 'the bar' to entry to DSP.

Does anybody have any suggestions or comments on buying land overseas...especially the philippines........I have some close contacts around Valencia near Dumaguete who can get me land for about $5 a suare metre and can be bought in a foreigners name.
I do not own a house or land in Australia and have rented the last 15 yrs. I am currently going through the UP application process and would hopefully be able to stay long term overseas.
Is there any way centrelink could throw a spanner in the works with some thing like this.......??.......if I bought some land there I would eventually build a small simple dwelling.
With the continual changes in policy and regulations not so sure if this is a good idea.
