AEON in Thailand is not a bank, it's a finance company... never ever use their ATMs on the most obvious paydays, there is always a line up of Thai's trying to feed money into the machines to pay their cars and mortgages... lol.
If I was in the Philippines I'd check out similar companies in the big shopping malls, ask around whether they charge a withdrawal fee. Five bucks is worth a little extra effort.

The best mob I have found is ChinaBank.
They were the first in the Phils with ATM's so not bad coverage.

My favourite story about banking in the PI, I went downtown in Angeles City to use an ATM and while was so occupied the bank doors opened and the manager and a security guard physically escorted a guy out and threw him down the steps into the street.
Picking himself up and dusting himself off he turned to them and with the utmost dignity said... "I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on".
PURE CLASS!!!!!!

It is a shame that sending smallish items back and forth is so expensive. I did some artwork for my friends over there, and emailed it off to see if they liked it. A couple of hours later they showed me some 'tarpulins', almost a metre high, each with my artwork colourfully printed on it. They had about a dozen of them made in the time between the email arriving and me checking to see if they liked them.
From memory they cost about PHP120 or a little more, each. Where in Australia can you get a small run of metre high full colour advertising banners done, in two hours, for around $3 each? And if you could get them done for $10 each in labour, the raw materials price would kill you.
A little import/export would create a nice retirement income and we could afford to use ATMs..

Hi Mick Citi bank which is not Australian but is an International bank you can use your key/debit card wherever there is a branch assuming you have an account with them there should be no problems . There are no fee's also for this service. The only downside is the Debit card only lasts for 1 year its worth checking out. good luck mate. Thanks IML I am looking into Citibank now. I plan to go to Thailand but have found only a handful of Citibank ATM's in Bangkok. On average what are the fees for using non Citibank ATM's, or what is the worst I will be stung?

Good luck mate Just curious. Are CitiBank ATMs fairly common in RP? I mostly use my gf's bank ATM, but occasionally I need to use my own card. I've usually just found the nearest 7/11. A habit I got into in Japan, but using an Aussie card it can be a very expensive habit.

This might be of interest to the people sending money to the Philippines. "SendMoneyAsia is an Australian Government funded website that you can use to compare costs when you send money from Australia to China, India, Indonesia, Philippines or Vietnam." www.sendmoneyasia.org/

Banker always maintained Ozfourex was the cheapest way to transfer money and he was a very experienced expat. I think the only problem was the minimum transfer was $2000. nope mate any amount, of course you'd send at least few hundred bucks in one hit, forex charges 8 dollars oz for the services and they offer a good rate of exchange, most philippinos that i know recieve funds from rellies in oz this way plus forex sends balikbayan box's and also you can send a open lid type 44 gallon drum to RP chockers full of what ever. cheaper than a box, anyhow just a bit of imfo for anyone interisted, i sent 8x200 ltr drums over here chockers, even nuts n screws, nails etc stuff that is hard to get in philly.

Because I will only be there on tourist visas. I think you need some sort of residency documentation in Thailand, a lot of banks here want the "yellow book" or proof of an address. Other want to see a lease agreement. I think in the PI you can but there is a minimum initial deposit...
