First I have heard of this. The Western Australian Government is hailing its regional fuel card scheme a success, presenting the 40,000th card to a disability pensioner in Bunbury yesterday. Under the initiative, introduced in 2009, cardholders are entitled to $500 worth of fuel and taxi fares. Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls says there are about 5,000 pensioners in regional WA who are eligible for the card but are yet to register. He is urging them to take up the offer. "If you look at aged pensioners, disability pensioners, carers, you're dealing with a segment of the community that's always under financial pressure," he said. "This is a wonderful program to try to link in with some of the more disadvantaged members of the community." abcscience.com.au/news/stories/2011/02/10/3135257.htm?site=news
