yes and gina and rupert deserve their money. We just have to put in 80+ hour work weeks to become rich and not spend it on gambling, booze, drugs and being frivolous with money.

l don't think ABbott and ANdrews are going to let something like the truth or the facts get in the way of their Nasty ,right wing ,redneck agenda, that unemployed and DSP's are ' Bludgers' and need to be taken off welfare and into low paid jobs, even though there aren't enough jobs out there. Politicans on $6,000 per week who still rort their travel allowances and wealthy business leaders who rort the tax system calling the unemployed on $250 per week bludgers. A large pool of unemployed desperate for any job benefits big business because then they can pay lower wages and conditions, check this out www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/toyota-workers-warned-20140123-31bsj.html

Thanks, frugle, what a laugh! And the other guy was trying so hard to get away from him lol. Guys I am thinking of starting an online petition against the attack on the DSP. All this talk in the media has gotten me anxious - part of my problems - however if the petition takes off, someone will have to talk to the media, and i'm too scared of centrelink to do this. Is anyone else game to put their name down as the petition organiser? Aussieinusa? We also need to get more articles out in the mainstream media to represent our views. I just had a look at the People with Disabilities www.pwd.org.au/ site and left some messages asking about why they are not advocating strongly against the welfare changes. They told me Craig wallace, their president is writing articles for the australian and i read one, but it was very meek and missed so many key things, like it was afraid of the government. So i raised those points with them. The best way to get our views across is probably the media, maybe someone would be able to collaberate on an article with me ..hint hint Aussieinusa? Then we can try to get it published...the disabled are so underrepresented in the media. I remember an article by a homeless person in some online paper which went viral because so few homeless people are able to tell their story to the masses..

Our previous foray into the world of online petitions wasn't all that successful but the portability issue had nowhere near the number of followers that the pension changes should have.
I'd worry about the petition first and a spokesperson later.

l guess the reason why there hasn't been that much protest yet is we don't know exactly what abbott and Andrews has planned yet, all we know is they said they want to target the DSP and Newstart to save money.

Employment Peaks State Case for Welfare ReviewEmployment service peak bodies have called on the Federal Government to help more people into work rather than tighten eligibility or reduce welfare payments. The news comes as Federal Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews announced that the Government would be reviewing Australia’s social welfare system. Jobs Australia and Disability Employment Australia said the drivers behind the growth in welfare were largely demographic, with an ageing population the greatest single factor. The peak bodies said that while the raw number of people on the Disability Support Pension had generally been trending upwards over the last decade, as a percentage of the working-age population it has remained relatively steady. “We need to take a different perspective to initiate real change. Tinkering with payment rates and eligibility just makes people’s lives harder, it doesn’t help them find and keep employment,” Lynette May, CEO of Disability Employment Australia, said. “This has been proven time and time again over the last decade.” The peak bodies support simplifying welfare payments with the long-term goal of moving to a single working-age payment, with supplements for additional costs where relevant, but they said that doing so would mean significantly increasing the Newstart Allowance – at substantial cost to government – or reducing support for people with a disability. “It’s already incredibly difficult for people with a disability to get the support they need,” CEO of Jobs Australia, David Thompson, said. “We’re talking about people who need more support, not less.” The peak bodies have called for a focus on how to help more people into work, through initiatives including removal of disincentives to work from the DSP and helping employers understand the business case for fostering diversity in their workforce. Performance data for Australia’s employment services system showed that specialist programs that invest more in ongoing support for employers were delivering good outcomes, but performance would be improved with less red-tape. “There is much more to be done if we want to be serious about having more people with disability contributing to society through inclusive workforces,” May said. - See more at: www.probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2014/01/employment-peaks-state-case-welfare-review#sthash.z7kurnIj.dpuf

I know there are other threads on this but I firmly believe that Newstart should be increased to at least 90% of the current DSP.
And, I know there are other threads on this but I also firmly believe that all middle class welfare should be eliminated and that includes the public servants that have granted themselves paid parental leave even more generous than the LNP are proposing.
And, irrespective of job losses I firmly believe that all subsidies to prop up companies should be eliminated and I include any car maker, shipping line, food company, electricity supplier or generator, whatever.
And, I firmly believe that all self centred 'not in my back yard' laws should go so housing can be affordable to all because it is a crime what transpires at the moment anywhere in Australia.
