CL say that, they even told me that it has passed the senate! If you talk to CI they will tell you that it's not official yet. But maybe they know something we don't and maybe it's only a matter of filing the documents, 'cause unofficially it might have been all signed.

Bloody hell ... Centrelink is telling people that its all a done deal and Centrelink International say its not passed at the senate yet Also most Centrelink staff are against it ....... ? The Senate knows that Hockey and Abbott's budget is the most unpopular in Australian history and they are now conceding that may have to re consider some options ...?

Centrelink staff have been dealing with us for 4 years now and constantly losing against us in the appeals system on residency.
I've seen the look on their faces when you take your SSAT decision letter in and demand your pension be reinstated and book your next trip away.
A lot of ill feeling there.
Edit: People will remember what Hockey and Abbott tried to take away, not what crumbs they might throw back.

People will remember what Hockey and Abbott tried to take away, not what crumbs they might throw back. All the polls show that now !

I am receiving DSP and studying. I would like to go on exchange next January for a semester. My friend who receives a student payment has been informed by centrelink that he will be paid while overseas. I am too scared to ask clink if i will continue to get dsp because i do not want them to take it away. Does anybody know if they will continue to pay me?? Will they want to reassess me? Thank you

I'm not sure what the situation is for travel if you are a student on the DSP. I think you would find Centrelink would advise you without you having to make a commitment. Why don't you give Welfare rights in your home state a ring and ask them to find out for you? www.welfarerights.org.au/

If you are studying an Australian course overseas your payment will be portable for the period of your absence provided you still meet eligability.

I'm not sure what qualifies as approved but yes... Agree immiadviceSomewhere in the draconian monster is a list of approved courses and the bottom line is you have to have commenced your course of study in an Australian institution in Australia that has a particular subject or subjects that you can study overseas at their approved institution. In other words you cannot just rock up to, say, the University of My Asian Paradise Country and enroll in one of their courses and expect to gain an exemption from Australian study requirements while continuing to receive a pension for an extended period of time.
