After waiting 5 weeks our member has been refused Legal Aid. The decision was based on his "apparent lifestyle and/or interests" and concluded that he "should have access to funds to pay for his case privately". I told the silly bastid not to go down to the office in his Ferrari.
I hate to join the conspiracy theorists but the only possible conclusion that can be drawn from this is the Legal Aid has rung Centrelink to find out what is going on and been told that Centrelink believes he has funds overseas but can't prove it.

I tried to access Legal Aid a few years ago when I was embroiled in a civil case, but they told me they usually only gave help in criminal matters. The lady I spoke to did give some good advice though, but I seem to remember I could only call them once or twice more before their telling me to piss off. I guess they get too many people draining their resources, even the free advice. Don't let it grind you down.....I have to do everything myself these days, and in fact I won my court case (when the other guy had a barrister AND solicitor )......but then he won in the higher courts. Hmmm....
