I got a online letter from centrelink telling me they have booked a appointment with me to discuss and review my dsp participation plan. This would just be a formality wouldn't it? seeing as I am under 35. I hope it isn't a review of my dsp!
I work part time and declare my income I thought centrelink would leave me alone. anyone else had a participation review?

I'm obviously well past the age of 35 so I don't know a great deal about this. All you can do is go for the review and make sure that they know exactly the number of hours you're capable of working. They should be grateful to people like you that earn and reduce their pension payments.

Hello l'm pity sure it just means what they say reviewing your participation plan, did you get your DSP between Jan. 2008 and December 2011 , l think they are only reassessing the under 35s who got the DSP between those dates.

Yeah they are weirding me out too, i went overseas with my mum a month ago, the moment i got back i got a letter saying that after careful review of my pension i will be exempt from participation plan only until the 7th of january, even though they say im 20 points in one category with 0-7 hour work capacity. im under 35 but i should be exempt from participation with that criteria.
So now im overseas again, deided to make the most of portability before the new rules come in. The moment i left, got a letter saying my newstart is going to be reduced by $70 a fortnight starting december, but until then it remains the same as it is now. after looking at the details there is no energy supplement in my future payment and my pension supplement will be reduced to $20 per fortnight. but the actual pension payment, the $720 remains the same. any idea why that would happen.
Any idea why they would do that?, i have only travelled or one other week this year, 2 weeks with my mum and now 3 days overseas this time. im not going to call them from here, but they love to freak you out dont they!!.

Yes looks like they are really persecuting all the DSP's under 35. The new law says people under 35 on the DSP who have less then 8 hours a week work capacity are exempt from compulsory participation. Maybe ring centrelink or go into your local office and ask them why they are making you do it and reducing your payment by $70. If you don't agree with their answer then You should speak to welfare rights to see where you stand and if centrelink is trying to force you to do something you don't have to or reducing your payment unfairly someone from Welfare rights could be a great help in getting centrelink to reverse what they are doing. www.welfarerights.org.au/

I actually got a pay rise in the DSP last week which I didn't expect considering the way they are treating anyone under 35.

They have no choice, the rises are factored into the legislation.

a quick update. I went into my local centrelink office this morning. boy have things changed. firstly the last time I went in to centrelink there was a line out the door of people waiting to hand in dole forms.....no more....the guy I saw told me online services has taken care of that problem for centrelink.
As I said the participation review was a formality. The guy who interviewed me was friendly and explained to me since libs got into power the new rule was that every dsp person under 35 would have to have participation review every 3 months. He told me that the participation review was compulsory but having to undertake a activity was voluntary He told me seeing as I am 35 next march I would only have to do one more review in Jan next year.
The guy interviewing me could see on the computer system I was declaring some part time work and income and said that was fine to meet the requirements of the participation review.
All in all no dramas but god knows how they are going to get round to reviewing every dsp person under 35 every three months

Thanks for the update :-) Every three months? Are they insane? What is the point of that? I wonder if they'll try it on for the people on UP, and if doing it by phone is a possibility? They can do a JCA over the phone.

I think to get U/P u must have a 0 hours work capacity. How they determine ur work capacity is beyond me. I think it should come down to weather u might actually find/get a job. Also I think the participation review would be a hassle if u were not working or studying. The centrelink interviewer mentioned to me if I wanted to be enrolled with a disability service provider. We all know what they are like

Ha, what a crock. So even with UP I have to come back at least 4 times a year just to tick some box? Weren't the twice yearly (at most) reviews enough? This wouldn't annoy me if it was going to offer any assistance whatsoever to people.

Hey boku, You have hit the nail on the head when you say "How they determine ur work capacity is beyond me." And I think you are correct when you say "0 hours work capacity." to get UP. When I had my UP JCA I knew and stated at the start of the interview, "We both know I have 20 points in one table and what I have to demonstrate and convince you of is that I am 'stuffed' and am unable to work again".

Unlimited Portability is just that, unlimited, but when I die it will stop. At most, and only because part of the medical reports are asked if my condition will last 5 years or more, I may be reviewed in 2018.
