I just wanted to ask everyone for employment finding tips.
I have been working in a rsl club for 3 years now sometimes doing 25 hours a week and sometime 9 hours. I am looking for a new job and have been for a while. I just can't find the right job for me. I hate working in an rsl club because all I have been doing is cleaning toilets and ashtrays. I want to be more than a cleaner.
I have applied for a customer service representative at fitness first and hopefully it goes well. I will know by next week.
I have tried gumtree and seek and indeed. Does anyone else know of other search engines or tips.
I like to work in a cinema as well or at JB hi fi.

All I can suggest is upgrade your qualifications, look at courses covering the type of work you want to do. Having a job now is a big plus when applying for a new one so stick with it if you can.
Go into JB Hifi and get an application form, ask if they need any special qualifications in retail or IT.

Tafe courses are free if you are on the pension, you also get education entry payment/education supplement. Fitness Cert III course looks pretty straight-forward, and lots of jobs in the fitness industry. Lots of different courses like retail and customer service which would enhance job prospects.

Just a suggestion quantumranger but while you are still at the RSL have you thought about getting your Responsible Service of Alcohol and/or Poker Machine Attendant certificates? If you were to chat to a Club manager to see if they would support you as it helps to get the certificates. And whether you work at either of those positions at that RSL at least it gives you a couple of bits of paper when applying for other jobs. Also Poker Machine Attendant may help with JB HiFi. The other is, and depends on your location, but hotel porters and concierge staff may be worth considering. Tips can be good also.

Unfortunately TAFE is only free in some states. In Tassie it's only a concession, but with the education supplement can cover the cost easily, as you can have your fees deducted via Centrepay. Once your fees hit $300 in a 12 month period, upto certificate 4, you don't pay anymore that year.
I copied this from a TAFE NSW site:
"Students who live or work in NSW and who receive a disability support pension and students with a disability (clients of a Teacher/Consultant or students with a disability) are exempt from paying the Smart and Skilled Student Fee for one qualification enrollment per year (and are eligible to pay the relevant concession fee for each subsequent course enrollment (up to Certificate IV) in that year)."
I'm studying at TAFE, and it is a very supportive environment for people with a disability.

Maybe they stipulated the references be from previous employers.

Maybe they stipulated the references be from previous employers. Your probably right Banjo. I just remember from ages ago that a character reference does carry weight for some employers. I also remember that as long as I could give names and phone numbers of where I had worked then prospective employers could check me out for themselves with a previous employer. But in this employment climate I would think the more references you can give, whether employment or character references, the better your chances.

When I left school and applied for a job with BHP I had to have one from a minister of religion....

When I left school and applied for a job with BHP I had to have one from a minister of religion.... Different jobs I've applied for but same. In a way it kind of explains the old adage that it's not what you know but who you know. And sometimes a prospective employer just wants to know if someone/anyone is prepared to say words to the effect, "Yes I know this person". I think that often times it comes down to integrity.
