Thanx, what about the 2 year wait to leave, even if you do get portability. I hear that if you've been outa Oz frequently for awhile they may force U to remain here for 2 years even after you succeed to get your portability I can't see this at all, the DSP is a residency based payment, if you apply for UP you have to be on the DSP which you would only qualify for if you fitted Centrelink's residency requirements. So how can they then say you're a non resident and ground you for 2 years?

Maybe I didnt explain myself correctly, I'm in the process of re-establishing residency to apply for dsp. If successful I will then apply for UP. I'm sure a follow member made an entry here that he was hit with a 2 year waiting period after achieving UP before it cud be made active. I hope I am wrong. I have a dear German friend who lives in the tropics who immigrated to Oz and worked his arse off after the war paid a truck load of tax over 40 years but when he returned to Oz to claim his Oap they stitched him up, prob with a residentcy ruling and told him he must remain in Oz 2years to succeed

You seem to be comparing apples to oranges, The U in UP stands for unlimited. The rules for establishing residency in regards to OAP have nothing to do with DSP and UP. Read Banjo's post again.
