With an election coming up this year we need to make our views felt on the unfair 2 year wait for the Age Pension portability by people Centrelink deem to be non-residents.
We have to decide what fair requirements are, anyone at any level of AWLR will probably be too much to ask for. Centrelink have to put hard and fast rules into place designating how someone entitled to the pension loses residency, how many years away over what period of time.
As with the DSP portability not everyone will be pleased with any outcome, some will still miss out. We need to decide what we consider to be fair.
I think that anyone with 35 years AWLR should get automatic portability. Maybe those with 25 to 34 years could get a percentage while overseas.
Keep in mind that anyone with 10 years residency is entitled to a full pension while living in Australia.
MikeCNX and Dave3478 have been at MPs in Perth, I wrote to Mark Butler, Labor MP Port Adelaide. It's time for anyone that's going to be affected, or support those that are, to remind MPs of just who decides who governs this country

Just a note.. I got a phone call from J Macklin MP about 2 weeks ago from her Assistant. I explained my circumstances to him about living over seas till i reach pension age as I have not found any work here in Perth. I am not sure what the out come of that conversation was but I at least got a hearing.

May you have beeter luck than me Dave as i spoke to her staff a number of times both by phone and in person and nothing came out of it. But maybe more chance when in opposition than when she was in government.

The vote is in the Senate.
I don't know if the Senate has the right to amend the changes or just vote yes or no.
The 6 weeks travel restriction for Age Pension recipients seems to be a key point.

The Senate can attach changes to the legislation but then it will have to be voted on again in the house of representatives before reaching royal assent.
It is absolutely fair that someone with 35 years AWLR should not have any 2 year residence requirement before a payment is portable. Get those letters in!

Both Banjo and I today have had contact via The Greens in Canberra with delving into from, within I will say, about 1 hour from contact, to the Parliamentary Library staff to examine detail of how the 2 year rule is applied and under what criteria. This is ongoing and is additional to the current bills for 35 year reductions which the govt wishes to enact.
We are attempting to establish whether there is a clear legislated document or centrelink regulation that determines exactly when and how the 2 year rule will be applied.
You should all be well advised that this work is ongoing and we are delving further, with great support from the Senators office. They are indeed doing the work based on our critical inquiry.
