I'd like to welcome our new members this week and remind them and our other members that this is primarily a support forum where we share experiences and support people with Centrelink issues. Some discussion of political and other government issues is allowed but it must be kept civil and inline with the forum policies. Banjo, just wondering if there is any way possible to let everyone in Australia know about this forum? I found it while surfing the web and i suspect most others that way also. Would be great if everybody on DSP knew about it. And no I can't volunteer for the extra work load. But will try and think of some ideas on how to do it.

When we started we headhunted from as many other forums as we could, google forum expat and dozens come up. Then we worked on getting our search terms so they came up easily and after that it was word of mouth.
To be honest I don't really chase members now, I think 99% of people can get all of the info they need without joining. I think we pick up a few from the FaceBook page.
I check out new members as well, if their IP address comes up in Russia I have tendency to reach for the delete button. You may notice we're virtually spammer free, I caught one this week, the first in years.
No doubt when some keen young people start taking over the forum then the tools are there for a real welfare activist website.

Welcome to the forum David.
We really need to get the news out about this, people who have worked more than 40 years in Australia slip away for a couple of years and their residency goes down the tubes. They need to start coming back to Australia regularly to make sure they stay a resident.
Just imaging telling the tax office, if you owed them money... err hang on, Centrelink says I'm a non-resident so you must be the same?

Hi Everyone,I have a question I'm living in the Philippines since 2011 . I have a girlfriend carer 41 yrs of age in this country there is no work for her. I pay her provide everything and help her family who are very poor and lovely people. My question, A few Australians here married in the Philippines are still paid the single rate not the partnered rate. I would like to marry this lovely girl as she is a live in carer she would be much happier for many reasons. If I want to marry I need a certificate of no impediment from the Australian Embassy and clearance from Australian police. Surely Centrelink would then cut my pension to the partnered rate and I could no longer afford to keep and care for my girlfriend or help her family. I really need full time care and cant risk losing everything. Any advise would be most gratefully appreciated. Should I just leave things as is or is there a way for us to be married. Cheers deejtj

You apply for an exemption to being classed as a couple. You need to convince Centrelink that your future bride has no income but that should not be too difficult. Give International Services a call on the free number. www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/contact-us/international-phone-numbersIt's been known for people to marry and say nothing but it gets messy if they decide to return to Australia and seek a visa for their wife further down the track.

Thank You Banjo, I have little trust in Centrelink . I will take the risk and call them the last time I did they cut my pension to partnered rate, I appealed and was returned to the single rate within a month. The situation has just become a bit more complicated in the last few days, a friend passed away about a month ago his wife is in prison for drugs crimes, his son has no home another friend has looked after him until now but can no longer do so. My lady and I have offered to be foster parent and look to adopt the boy , he is 11 yrs of age. I would need to be married to accomplish an adoption. I fear this may also complicate things with Centrelink. I will never return to Australia it is simply impossible for me to do so , married I could apply for permanent residence here in the Philippines. I will call centrelink and see how it goes and also with the government here. Thank you again for your advise. Much appreciated. Have a great day. Tj

Hi Guys... I am very new to this... I have a 14 year old daughter... I busted up my back and I am on DSP...
I have a girlfriend in the Phillipines.. My daughter and I would like to move to the North in La Union. But it seems I cant keep my pension... I will never ever be fixed.. Im on all sorts of things to get through the rough times for pain... A back brace I wear more and more as I get older...
Does anyone know If i can move there on a semi permanent manner with my daughter and not lose my pension?
I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Newbie..
