Hi, you are able to go for I believe 4 weeks. That is if you are currently on the DSP.

It also depends if you have been assessed as having a serious impairment. If so, you have unlimited time and portability. You would though have to be assessed again.

Hi vajo,
When on the DSP and overseas you are allowed 4 weeks paid in every 12 month period. After the 4 weeks you get suspended but are allowed another 13 weeks unpaid before you get cancelled. That is where they are getting the 17 weeks from. If you go overseas for a second time within that 12 month period you will get suspended immediately but will be allowed to remain outside the country for 13 weeks before you get cancelled. Suspended means no payment but reinstatement upon return. Cancelled means you lose your DSP altogether and have to reapply .... As mentioned people on the DSP that have been granted Unlimited Portability can stay outside the country indefinitely but this involves a special assessment by Centrelink ...

Vajo, Mulloway's post is all correct. We have discussed these time periods numerous times here on this forum. You will definitely get this long as a minimum. However there are certain exemptions which _MAY_ allow you a longer time. I encourage you to research these exemptions. Sorry, but I don't know them offhand.

Hi Mulloway, thank you so much for your very clear reply. I understand the 17 weeks calculation now. Thank you too, Latindancer. I will look into the exemptions you mention.

If you go to a country with a mutual agreement with Australa, and do not have ulp ,you could apply ,but will have to be reassessed, under said agreement,if granted you may be allowed up to six months ,but you would then have to be living in the country with which Australia has a mutual agreement with
