This may illustrate the situation : So why doesn't everyone understand the real situation, see through the iies? Can't they read, think for themselves, put themselves in someone else's shoes......what? It leaves me flummoxed. Cheers bear

Does she mean there are jobs in others countries for all those on the newstart allowance?
No offense but I could probably do her job if I didn't have disabilities.

Does the 1,219,000 unemployed count the 200,000 wrongly placed on Newstart?
Basic maths, and basic common sense seems to be lacking in political circles. Why do we send so much foreign aid to other countries, yet can let our own here go cold, and have to rely and run around to charities to get food.

I believe so rainyday . If your on Newstart, your unemployed. Of course that doesn't take into account who's providing or looking at the statistics and the line they want to run with; as shown below. I was told many years ago capitalism needs a certain percentage of unemployment and it's part of the government of the days job, to make that happen......by fair means or foul. Lies, damn lies & statistics, people aren't seen a relevant. Haven't been since Margaret Thatcher declared; "There's no such thing as Society!". I believe the biggest increase was when the aged pension age changed... Both DSP and Newstart numbers stayed much higher than previously due to people not moving onto aged pension.

My guess is some aged people were made redundant partly because they were perhaps not coping as well with their jobs because of failing health so were first to go.

I think welfare rights or whatever they are called now would help fill in an application. Other advocacy groups who help with these things are around also. But a bit late now I think.

So true nomadic, a bit late now. What I personally find insulting and lacking compassion is how they treat people like myself with disabilities. It can be a hopeless situation for many that find themselves living on newstart and trying to address disabilities and keep on top of health appointments with limited financial means. We are not far from being like a third world country, and now shipping a lot of foreign aid to the third world countries, whilst they are not even addressing the lack of social housing for low income earners here.

Tell everyone you know who will listen about your experience rainyday. About how you believed that in times of genuine need, the "safety net" (I hate that term) would provide at the appropriate level; and how miserably it failed to do so. Most if not all Australians believe the same; until the day comes around! Cheers bear

Yes, bear, "The safety net for the most vulnerable" is what they preach but never ever practice. MONDAY MORNING GROWL. But actually a growl every time I hear these cliched BS terms also. Not heard for a long time though; "The age of entitlement is over". Or my own fav when I was fighting my own war. "The law is there to encourage all Australians to partake in the economic and social way of life". And they were right on that one. I now have a Leo and a Pad Thai like the rich locals do. Don't even need to be encouraged to do that as it comes naturally. Cheers, Hank and Co.

By the way, when I say cheers, Hank, it translates into Thai. I'd like to use the rough end of a pineapple to do to you what you do to so many others. CHEERS HANK!
Hope that's not seen as violence or threatening by admin. PIneapples are so sweet.

Hi everyone longtime since ive been on i say always appeal centrelinks decisions i was reluctanct to appeal a decision when i was travelling to philippines very often centrelink declared me as a non resident and gave me a overpayment of $50,000 and classed me as a non resident so i appealed through the ARO which was denied normal process and then i found this site and was encouraged to appeal again through the SSAT which i did and then the decision was set aside and the $50,000 debt wiped and i was even backpayed and then i decided to apply for Unlimited Portability which was granted so in my opinion always appeal centrelink decisions even if u have to go that extra mile sometimes it works on your favour i wouldnt of known what to do if i didnt find this site and the wonderful people on it like banjo and bear and latindancer because centrelink dont tell u how to go about it

That is fantastic Anthony... good news. A lot of support on this forum. I am getting closer to my hearing, and still gathering reports, seemed my psychologist hadn't put her report in, so I asked for it to come to me in an attachment through my email. Let's hope she sends it today. I truly have found some health professionals to not fully understand the stress I am going through, but then how could they?
Enough said, or I will go on and on. Thanks everyone for helping and listening to me in my time of need. You all get it!
