Is that true only 1% of people who have to do these medical reviews end up failing and lose their DSP, that would make be less worried.

Checking people the way the gov does is wrong on all fronts. Demonising people helps no one either.

Hi all,
I have been through almost the same experience as Fred.
I'm in my late 50's, and been on the DSP for 6 years due to a large, tender, incisional hernia that scores me 20 points on their so called 'tables'.
I received a CL review letter back in July 2017 and promptly filled it out with my condition confirmed & outlined by a different Doctor to the one I first saw back in early 2012.
I never heard back and thought that was the end of the matter.
Friday I get another letter demanding I attend a Job Capacity Assessment.
What do they want, blood ? My condition hasn't changed and won't change unless I have surgery which I am not prepared to undertake.
Since I was granted the DSP, I have also succumbed to severe arthritis and gout and have ongoing scripts for Celebrex as some days I can barely walk if it gets me in the knees or ankles. I haven't even mentioned that to them.
Not sure what I'll do at 58 and no income if they cut me off.
I'm not lazy, or a bludger and would go out and mow lawns or any job if I could. But I know in myself I'm way past it and who is going to employ a 58 year old with no teeth, (can't wear dentures), medical conditions and zero qualifications ? The system is broken.
Scary times we live in.

Correct me if its wrong but l think someone here said only 1% of people fail these medical reivews, if that's the case then l wouldn't worry about it too much. THe hard part is getting the DSP where l think the majority of applicants fail.

That is re-assuring.
Hopefully they will leave me alone after this ?

Welcome to the forum Tom, I cannot see any major issues with your review if you qualified under the new post 2012 impairment tables.
I'm a bit surprised they called you in at 58, your disabilities are only going to deteriorate at that age.

Thanks for the welcome and re-assurance.
I'm glad I found this forum.
It has put my mind at ease. Didn't sleep much last night worrying about it.
A lot of folk my age are in that danger period. Too old or crook to get a job, yet not old enough for the OAP.
God forbid you get crook or lose your job after turning 50. (or even 40) these days.
Cheers
Tom T
PS, I think it was Tony Abbott who said; 'No one will be left behind'. That's weasel speak for; 'We will come after you all and force you to shovel ****, even if you are in an iron lung'.

Welcome to the forum Tom Tit If you are able to do so, I suggest upgrading your Medical Information with the inclusion of your Arthritis & Gout, as a safety net, if you will. Pun intended, as we need all the help we can get! Scary Times indeed. Cheers bear

I shall do that.
I shall also let everyone know how I get on.
It might help ease the minds of others who get summoned by C.L.
Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Tom Tit. Good advice from Banjo and Bear, also with the upgrade of your medical information you will be in the best position you can be with your medical evidence to show that you are still entitled to DSP and that you are most likely to continue to be entitled.
They do say that it is always better to have more than not have enough.

Thanks for the welcome bodyfailedbrainfried,
Yes, you chaps are giving great advice and hope.
I'll take along my other medical history.
I even had two separate lots of surgery about 11 years ago on both elbows and a knee to remove junk and gout crystals and relieve swelling and pain. It would also back up my current arthritis and gout condition I guess.
I have never bothered to tell CL as I thought my hernia was enough.
Plenty to add should they get nasty.
Cheers

I was just thinking.
We shouldn't have to go through this stuff.
We have been assessed by a registered, practising doctor, able to practice medicine in Australia.
They, the Gov, Centrelink then set the parameters to qualify on their points table.
If we then meet those requirements, why do they want to keep 2nd guessing ?
Maybe they need to start hauling in all these GP's and Specialists who they obviously don't trust to do the job they supposedly studied and qualified to do ?
I have had two different GP's assess me. Neither one batted an eyelid as they wrote out the 'unfit to work' report.
If the gov are financial numpties who couldn't run a chook raffle, why take it out on the vulnerable to put their rotten bottom line & surplus back in the black ?
It looks like this little exercise has backfired.
Wonder what poor group of unfortunates are next ? The single mothers again ?

It always surprised me that the AMA didn't have something to say about the contempt that Centrelink treats their members with. Fancy having a highly qualified surgeon overruled by psychologist or former nurse.

If the gov have put everyone on the DSP through a filter and come up with just 1% who don't qualify, maybe that will finally silence the likes of Steve Price & Andrew Bolt.
I always said, if these 'shock jocks' are so outraged at all the 'bludgers' on the DSP, maybe their venom should be directed at all the 'Medical Professionals' that put them on it.
Andrew Bolt came close to needing to claim DSP himself I heard after falling out of a tree.
You are up there one minute..... down the next.
Taxes are like insurance. You are forced to pay into the pot. It is your right to take from that pot if the SHTF.
