Just be mindful, and you tag yourself as Cripple and DSP, that if you require certain assistance it may be difficult for an airline to cater for you. For instance, most cut price airlines have limited room. The very first time I flew to the Philippines, 2011 return, I flew with Cathay Pacific from Perth to Hong Kong and then Cebu.

I'd register with the connecting airlines for promotion flights if you're not committed to a certain date, wait for these cheap flights to be offered.
Usually the cheaper the flight the earlier you have to book as well.

cripple I have been flying AirAsia out of the Gold Coast for years. Touch Wood, but I've never had any delays and they do provide assistance if required i.e. wheelchairs for one. If you book online you can just check the box during the process. I personally find KL to be a great jumping off point! Cheers bear PS I guess we all have our favourite routes. It's said Familiarity breeds contempt, but in these instances, I find it easier to know the how, when & where. I already know the why! To Centrelink; yes I can travel alone in familiar circumstances, Even OS. Duuh!

It's also worth checking Philippine airlines as they sometimes have deals with the bonus of full service and direct flight. I went with them twice years ago from Mel- manila-Bkk. Even included a 5 star hotel stop over in Manila on one of them. Sadly it was then an airport floor one after that. Lastly, all the regional airlines fly to Manila with a stop over in their own country along the way. Often with deals also. lots of choices so lots of home work to do to get exactly what you want. Lastly, my advice is that if you see a cheap flight with a budget one, book it straight away as from experience the price will go up the next time you look. Something to do with biscuits they tell me. Or was that cookies?

Hi Cripple If you are flying to Cebu from Singapore make sure that you have a return flight or an onward ticket from the Philippines otherwise they will not allow you to board in Singapore, or into Cebu trust me it happens

I think they call it Murphy's law after i said to book cheap fares immediately. I booked K.L. to MEL a few months ago for $180.00 one way. Out of curiosity I just took a look and is only $142.00 10 days before fly. Maybe lots of empty seats left. I gave up trying to work out air fares years ago. Often no logic at all on face value. You win some and lose some.

crippleYou need to talk to Banjo's mate. He went from (?) Manila to wherever Banjo lives by local transport. LOL You would have to get on a fishing boat that was heading North to somewhere. Then you would have to keep jumping from fishing boat to fishing boat until you got to the Philippines. And please, I'm not recommending it but I thought the story of Banjo's mate was incredibal. I forget where you posted it Banjo.

That was via ferries from Mindanao to Malaysian Borneo/Singapore etc.
In theory it could be done from Bali to Manila by bus and ferry.

well even i'm not that nomadic anymore. But sounds like something that would be one of the great trips if i was 40 years younger. 8 hours direct flight is my choice these days and with full service even better.

Well this guy was quite a bit older than me Nomadic, he just took his time and saw everything there was to see. Something that stuck in my mind is his story of talking to people working in a bar in Sabah who thought they were still in the Philippines. Fairly porous borders up that way.
