The link between immigration and Centrelink is working well.
I applied for the OAP in mid June and it was approved in mid July, it was actually approved a couple of days after I left Australia for the Philippines.
I received an email this morning telling me that my next payment would be minus the energy supplement, without me even calling them, or communicating with them in anyway, so it was just done all electronically by me departing the country, no worries at least it saves me making phone calls to let them know I am leaving.
It will be interesting come the middle of September when I enter Australia on a Thursday and leave for New Zealand on the Friday for a look see over there.
The long and short of it is that the authorities know our every movement, probably even our bowel movements.
Cheers

Reminds me of the bad old days when a few disreputable members would sit around over coffee scheming up ways of getting out of the country without immigration knowing. (I still think that sailing a yacht to PNG from Cairns was a good idea... )

Cheers Yep,, the reason every thing is done electronically online is to make their job easier. Take a guess why I always write everything down on paper and hand it over to them , with instructions saying,, Please copy and keep for your records and stamp and sign my original.

If you got out of Aus without going into the system you would still need to enter your country of choice legally. I know people who stay in Asia without visas and I really would not want to live like that. You'd never sleep easily.

I mentioned the other day that I went onto the MyGov site and updated my return date back to Australia because I will have been out for 8 weeks by the time I leave.
It was brought to my attention that I should follow that up with a phone call to International services, once again valuable information from the board members, which again the benefit of being on this forum.
The reason I say this, is that when I called a few minutes ago, the person of female gender, (I realise that we haven't gone gender neutral on this forum, I am just preparing myself for my return to a politically correct society in a couple of weeks), who was very welcoming and even spoke to me using my name, anyway I digress from the original subject.
In short she mentioned the fact that even though I had lodged my return date on the mygov site, that sometimes it gets missed, and she reckoned I should call a couple of days after I get back because sometimes the code from immigration to Centrelink doesn't go through and it could take a lot of phone calls and/or visits to a centrelink office to sort it out, and of course it gets noted on my profile that I called to discuss it.
So there ya go, I learnt something else today,
One more thing, she did mention that I can go as often and as long as I want, of course suffering the usual deductions.

LOL I used to tell some foreigners that they would be amazed if they saw my mate dip a helicopter into Argao to pick me up. They hated what I said. LOL

There was a French girl here where I am and it never occurred to me that she never mentioned going on visa runs like the rest of us. Because she never did. Ten years later they got her. Jail, deported never to return. Yes, i like to sleep also and easy to stay legally anyhow. An Aussie guy to young for retire visa just signed up to a Thai language course then went to Laos and now has 12 month visa.

Apart from me not wanting to live there but it sounds like the easiest place to get into would be America! And your right Banjo and nomadic. I like to sleep easy at night also. I did see somewhere over the years of being here that Philippine people are encouraged, if not rewarded, if they report a foreigner without a visa.

Fair enough too Denis-NFA I'm sure it would be encouraged in the lucky country as well. Cheers bear

Whom would you report it to for one and second, Philippine folk are fairly good at checking a foreigner out and I don't think the average Australian is as intensive in questioning a person.

I personally wouldn't report it Denis-NFA but the dob in lines are healty and well in the land of the fair go. Every day on free to air TV, for anyone with a set against someone or if they think they might know, have seen or overhead something. They even use recently arrived migrants in them, to show we are a nation of dobbers. Cheers bear
