Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if it's still possible to make an early application for Age Pension before returning to Aust.?
I can't find it anymore on DHS website, but can remember it used to be 3 months.
Thanks.

Why would you want to ? Isn't the current procedure that if you are O/S, if you return and get Aged Pension, you have to wait 2 years before leaving to go O/S again ? Isn't it best to wait and do it in Oz ?

G'day scarred . "early application for Age Pension before returning to Aust" From this I take it you are currently OS on DSP UP. If you were in Oz, you would automatically receive a letter 8 weeks out from your due date. People not on a payment get one 12-13 weeks out. At the moment many people are waiting exhorbinant amounts of time to have their applications processed as well. Read more here:- dspoverseas.proboards.com/board/2/news-older-australiansIf you have a myGov account you should receive it there! Cheers bear Now.... depending on the length of time you've been away, you may be better off staying on DSP. Why? Because depending on you r travel, they may decide you cannot have OAP UP for 2years, and anytime you leave the country they may cut you off. www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/enablers/age-pension-if-you-travel-outside-australia/31171What may be different If you come back to live in Australia from another country and start getting Age Pension, your payment stops if you go overseas during the next 2 years.

Is it even possible to stay on DSP (with unlimited portability) ? Can they just put you on OAP ?

From memory when you have UP on DSP and are away they will offer you the choice of going onto OAP when you turn 65. I think some have changed over with no problems at all and continue on UP. i am only a few months off this so will need a lot more info before i decide if i am offered. My current feeling is continue on DSP but may be better to change. Will look into it more when/if it comes up.

They send you a letter for, "Offer to Changeover." I was told I could stay on DSP, but portability would stay at twenty eight days, even though I was OAP age. So, I don't know why they'd change it to twenty eight days if you already had DSP UP. Cheers bear

Oh yes...I wasn't thinking straight. I just wanted to understand the procedure and how much Centrelink can make us do stuff.
I guess my question was really whether they can change someone over from one payment to the other without their consent.

I should have given more detail. I have no pension, should qualify for Age Pension, and residing overseas. If I apply before returning they may give me money straight away on arrival. If I apply after arriving they may take 6 weeks to process my application. I remember that previously one could apply 3 months in advance. I made sure to put this in the Age Pension section, as DSP is not involved.

There is a pertinent question here :
are you intending to go overseas again during the next two years ? Or staying in Oz ?

Hello, thanks for replying. My answer to your question is that I'll probably need a holiday within the two years. My question again is - can I start and complete an Age Pension application before arriving. to give them time to process before I come??

As you aren't on any payment you can make an application 12-13 weeks from age pension age; which now is 65.5 years. If you want to do it from overseas I suggest getting a MyGov account and starting your application there, online. However I doubt they will accept it if you don't have an Aussie address, as you have to be a resident to apply. my.gov.au/LoginServices/main/login?execution=e1s1To be a resident you have to be in the country. Call Centrelink International Services on +61362223455 from overseas and they'll be able to tell you for sure. Cheers bear P.S. dspoverseas.proboards.com/board/2/news-older-australians You may face significant delays in the process, as advised earlier; whether you start it three months out or not. People retiring in Oz are getting their letters and getting their pensions (backdated) when they get them.
