P.S. Indian logic makes Thai logic seem logical so you'd have to be even more tolerant to survive in India. Best travel experience on earth, but to live? But better than homeless in OZ for sure. Well-described and very true.

Very interesting and I would like to know and hear from any one who is doing this and how it works for them. What exactly are you wanting to know cripple . You haven't been very specific! Are you asking about Agreement Countries, which is the general question of the OP and thread, or people on UP in Thailand in general? If it's the latter; for me personally, it's working out quite nicely thank you very much! Cheers bear

Sorry , I'm interested in the agreement country's and how that works, is it easier to get than UP Anecdotally, when I first became interested in UP, I went into my local office to make some inquiries. The older CSO (customer service officer) I saw on the day said had I been going to an agreement country she could have made a decision on the spot. No review required. Bear in mind though that would have been 6-7 years ago, so may not still be the case. There are no shortcuts to UP. Had I been going to an agreement country, I would then also be bound to their social security laws, as they would be partly paying me. Their portability laws in particular! You cannot go to an agreement country and just skip bail, so to speak, to the country of your choice. You have to notify them of your intentions and go through their processes. Which may allow you to do it or back to Australia to do what you should have done in the first place. Cheers bear

From memory you still need to be severely disabled (20 points in one table) to live overseas in a social security agreement arrangement when on the DSP. It only differs from U.P. in that you don't need the zero work capacity for 5 years. Of those 31 countries mentioned, only India would be significantly cheaper to live in than Australia. Macedonia and other east Europeans are cheaper than thailand and waaay cheaper than oz

Mexico is cheap and you can stay there for 180 days visa free. Not sure about long term stays. But there are some nice fishing towns on the Baja peninsula and as an Australian you would treated as an amigo. You could get the bus up to San Diego for Visa runs.
Namibia has some amazing beaches and some of the best scenery and wildlife in Africa, it is Visa free for 3 months but I have never meet anyone who has been there.
As for South East Asia, I think Cambodia offers a better deal than Thailand these days.
Then there is Australia, it also has nice beaches. it offers free health care, subsidized housing and some of the cheapest alcohol on the planet. Casks of wine sell for around 10 bucks or $2:50 a litre.

Beaches:- ✓
Free Health Care:- If you qualify.
Subsidized Housing:- If you don't die while your waiting. Rent assistance doesn't count.
Cheap Alcohol:- We grow the grapes, we make the wine, it should be cheap. Great if you're a wine drinker.
So in summary Australia has nice beaches. It also has overpriced food, electricity, state government charges, over officious police and security forces and a culture that doesn't sit well with me anymore. Nahh.....pass. Cheers bear

Thailand is better value than Cambodia in general with far more mod cons. As much as I love going to Cambodia and would prefer it to Oz give me Thailand any time. Food is more expensive just to begin. Like Laos, they have very little manufacturing so everything is imported so prices are higher. Apart from, like beerlao, Angkor beer is both cheap and good.
