Frydenberg: Pension age won't be raised to 70 Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has ruled out raising the pension age as part of the first retirement income review in 30 years. Mr Frydenberg was asked if the government would consider raising the pension age as part of the wide-ranging inquiry into superannuation, savings and housing that will dominate Treasury's agenda for the next year. "No, it's not, what we’re focusing on is, again, developing an evidence-based approach to future policy decision." he said in Melbourne on Saturday. "This will be the first holistic review of our retirement income system since compulsory super came in in the early 90s." Shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers accused the government of burying the terms of reference for the review by releasing them on a Friday afternoon before the AFL grand final. "If the government was serious about this retirement incomes review they wouldn't have dropped it out on the eve of grand final weekend hoping nobody would notice,"he said. Mr Frydenberg said the government "continued to support" the legislated timetable for compulsory superannuation increases from 9.5 per cent to 12 per cent by 2025. Half a dozen Coalition MPs have raised concerns about the timetable, arguing workers need more money now than savings for their retirement. They will use the inquiry to lobby against the increase despite cabinet backing the rise in the superannuation guarantee. The Treasurer said the family home would not be part of the asset test for the pension. "Our position hasn’t changed and that will never be part of our policy," he said. www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/frydenberg-pension-age-won-t-be-raised-to-70-20190928-p52vtf.html

Considering it's already been raised to 67 y.o. by 2023; can you believe anything that comes out of their mouths. I can't! Cheers bear
P.S. Note my highlighted text above; it's not being focused on, but they will make evidence based policy. Pollywaffle, spin, double speak.......

Bear, the problem is that there are people out in the electorate that believe the dribble, lies whatever you like to call it that come out their mouths.
I could be called a cynic whatever, but my theory is that when these politicians say that they are reviewing something it has be bad news.

I don't think it is about the OAP. As bear points out above they have already stuffed around with increasing the eligible age for receiving OAP. What it more seems to be about is a few things:- Firstly, whether increasing the Superannuation Guarantee from the current 9.5% rate to 12% by 2025 should apply as some folk are saying the extra % should be paid in cash directly to workers; Secondly, the Productivity Commission back in January found that fees charged for looking after your super are too f!king high and most people know they are a rip off (I think it has been proven that Australian workers pay the highest fees in the world); Thirdly, some folk are questioning the point of providing the Super Guarantee to folk that have absolutely no chance of accumulating any meaningful amount of super and the amount should go to them as cash; and Fourthly, if you have the super and can show you can live on it until you are 85 or whatever then why not allow people to retire earlier than 65 and access their super. But then again I'm in the cynic camp with onemore.
