Looks like there will be a lot of people soon to have there first experience with Centrelink. I feel bad for them, firstly for loosing their jobs and being left with not having enough money to live in this expensive country, but then their nightmare of dealing with Centrelink and finding out the reality of their safety net, that they have been paying tax towards.
Not sure what three word slogan Morrison can think up to deflect the anger of these new applicants when him and his ministers start demonising them, as he has done to all past recipients of any social welfare.
Try forcing the basics card on 10% of the population.

It will certainly be an eye-opening wondrous experience for them timber ; if it's business as normal. I suspect it may end up being a rubber stamping exercise though, due to possible numbers. Way off topic; but here's some encouraging news: m.facebook.com/watch/?v=1327490577638662&_rdr

I wonder how many of these people thought we were all loafers also. Now more will know the real story.

It will be a huge shock for most people who go on newstart for the first time, most have no idea how bad it is because the mainstream media doesn't report it , thing like how uselss, cruel and corrupt the jobnetworks are, first timers on newstart probably think the jobnetworks are actually there to help them get jobs , Ha HA Ha HJ then they discover the jobnetwrks only exist to bully them and profit off them and do absolutelty nothing to get them a job. They will find one small mistake their payemtns will be cut off , get treated like garbage and a bludger no matter how hard you try to find a job

then they discover the jobnetwrks only exist to bully them and profit off them and do absolutelty nothing to get them a job. I used to think this kind of talk was cynical until it happened to me.....though they didn't bully me. They just steered me towards godawful jobs I would never last in, solely to make a profit out of me. This became more apparent as time went on. They did however give me a few petrol vouchers and pay for some work clothes out of their funding.

Seems to be a common theme latindancer. Let's see what a rise in claimants does and the comments from them yet to come. I've got no sympathy whatsoever for them......so it's gonna be like for like from me. Cheers bear

This takes me back to the time when DSP recipients were targeted and shamed. We all know that there were and perhaps still are, numerous amounts of individuals rorting the system. Sadly, this has reflected poorly on those genuine DSPers who have acquired illnesses and impairments that warrant a fortnightly payment which is bearly enough to cover ongoing basic living expenses were put through the mincer. Period.
It seemed endless, months and years of media coverage that zoomed in on any available incident that involved a vulnerable Australian citizen with the much dreaded DSP label stamped across their forehead. It was a sin to be on DSP. It became a shameful living condition for the most vulnerable citizens in Australia. Worse came to worse when the government decided to follow Britain’s stringent process of monitoring and targeting those receiving DSP and remove their already miserable fortnightly payment on to the dole.
Then to add a dose of extra grief, overseas travel for DSPers was extremely limited. The government made life for vulnerable DSPers very tough. It was a mean way to isolate a small proportion of the Australian population. This phase of the Centrelink experience was a nightmare for many recipients. Families were torn apart due to the restrictions made on overseas travel.
And now the chaos has only just begun. Hundreds of thousands of employees are heading to the large white gates at every Centrelink office throughout Australia. Perhaps they will feel the pain of unworthiness, helplessness and shame that was once delivered quite openly to battling DSPers who were merely attempting to “have a go” and get on with the miserable predicaments that they were forced to face as a result of society’s demand for reviews and restrictions on them.
However, life is doing a complete 360 and we are currently haunted by a zoonotic virus that has a sole purpose to destroy the lungs of any breathing human being it can sneak into. Are we doomed? Well, kind of. We are doomed in a sense of complete uncertainty as in not knowing how this is all going to pan out in perhaps six months time. People are panicking and stressing to the max. Australia didn’t have to target DSPers those years ago and make their lives miserable. The amount of money spent on cracking down to eradicate the so called “leaners” was a massive waste of taxpayers money. Money that could have been best left in the surplus.
Am wondering why Centrelink didn’t set up a system for all applications to apply for the new payment online and then run the interviews via video link. Doing this would surely lessen the risk of contracting the virus while standing in a queue at Centrelink offices. These new applications are most likely going to feel what it’s like to rely on welfare as do DSPers. Stay safe all xx

Stay safe all xx Although im half asleep Kimmy, i will say i support centrelink and videolink activity. Especially as a male with mental illness. It is very humiliatung going to the nental ward or psychologist, waiting at reception and so forth. Ive advocated for years for videolink technology especially for men with mental health issues. One day they will wake up and listen, they just like to take things slowly at centrelink, kind of like a tortoise who unfortunately doesn't win the race.

The Chaser's take on things : Nation hit with worst disaster yet as they’re forced to deal with Centrelink. The nation of Australia has stopped worrying about the Coronavirus today, after declaring that nothing could be worse than their first day attempting to claim social services in this country. “I called up and informed them I’d lost my job because of the downturn,” explained newly unemployed citizen Brent Everett. “They instantly processed my claim and told me I now owe $5000 in Robodebt and I have 3 days to pay it or they’ll start leaving horse heads in my bed.” “I know people always complain about Centrelink, but it was never supposed to affect ME!” raged another newly unemployed man Joey Mills. “Centrelink should only be bad for those lazy people who were out of work before the virus happened. For hard working people who lost their job through no fault of their own, Centrelink should be a streamlined breeze.” Asked whether he had possibly for a moment considered that he and the people unemployed for different but equally valid reasons might actually be exactly the same, John said that the thought had never occurred to him, but it doesn’t sound right. chaser.com.au/general-news/nation-hit-with-worst-disaster-yet-as-theyre-forced-to-deal-with-centrelink/?fbclid=IwAR0CgUkrSVa8XqXa3fUB1A7LbYuyANJFckAS6ngz6TV-3xYImCFvnEk06h8
