Hello Bear Thank you for your response we are planning to stay 2.5 years so then I hope to get portability. What is best option, tourist visa or spouse visa? or fiance visa.We will not start now , we are just finding out the best way .Thank you once again , I tried to ring them and waited to long and still could not get through. Tourist visa can get for 12 months and wife can go back and return . Any ideas about this Thank you Bear

My answers re visas are Thailand specific. For other countries, look up the Australian Embassy for the particular country. If you are legally married in Thailand, i.e. registered at the amphur; you can inform the Australian Embassy in BKK of this, and get a spouse visa, (partner sub-class 309) because the marriage is then also legally recognized in Oz, work should be allowed upon arrival. I don't know the specifics re being legally married as to what benefits, other than work that that may confer on her, though if any, I'm sure there'd be time factors involved. Neither tourist (sub-class 600) nor fiance, partner/prospective marriage (sub-class 300) visas will give your wife any access to Centrelink benefits. A tourist visa will not allow for her to work, whereas a fiance visa will, unless legislation has changed; and from the day she arrives as well. Neither will give her any Medicare cover. thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Visas_and_Migration.htmlTo contact Centrelink: I've found Centrelink International Services the best bet to contact from overseas. If you call them opening time in Oz, 8.30 a.m.; wait times are generally quite short, under 10 minutes, and if called on this number from Thailand, the call is free. (0018006114136) add your local outgoing call code. Full list of international phone numbers: www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/contact-us/phone-us/international-phone-numbers
