To hell in a handbasket springs to mind
Only 21 rental listings across Sydney and Melbourne would be affordable for a single unemployed person when the coronavirus supplement is cut later this month, new research claims.
Anglicare’s Rental Affordability Snapshot, to be released on Tuesday, found of the 76,000 advertisements surveyed across Australia, 808 properties were reasonably priced for a single person on the jobseeker payment.
But the figure will drop to 168, or 0.2% of the market, when the federal government reduces the supplement by $300 a fortnight on 25 September. At the reduced rate, there would be only six affordable rental listings in Sydney and 15 in Melbourne. Elsewhere, there would be 28 in southern Queensland, three in Adelaide, 20 in Western Australia and 60 in Tasmania. Legislation to cut the supplement comes with about 1.5 million people receiving the jobseeker payment, up from roughly 700,000 before the pandemic. Economic idiots... the very last thing you do is cut Federal Government spending in a recession as it will only deepen the recession.
It shows how those in power don't truly understand the purpose of Social Security and its importance in maintaining a stable economy.
You see social security isn't to aid the poor but to stimulate the economy by maintaining aggregate demand, to keep people in jobs and Businesses open to avoid another Great Depression. Social Security was the economic solution that was established by Keyne's to tackle the Great Depression and to ensure it never occurred again and was introduced initially into the US by Roosevelt, followed by NZ and then Australia... these nongs in Government today forget the role of social security.Tp explain further I quote Dr Ellis Winningham who worked for the US Federal Reserve. People believe that welfare, food stamps and unemployment insurance are programs designed to help the poor and unfortunate. They are not. That belief is the product of politicians redefining these programs with the intent to create an issue where no issue really exists. In other words, they purposefully mislead the public for political gain – votes. The macroeconomic intent of welfare, food stamps and unemployment insurance is not to help the less fortunate, but rather, to help the entire economy avoid a major collapse in aggregate demand. Hence, welfare, food stamps and unemployment insurance are automatic stabilizers for the economy and most nations employ automatic stabilizers.- AWNSee more: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2777154762554540&id=1415019052101458

The economy is going to be hit for many years. It is pointless speculating what ifs because it will only stress yourself and other people out.

I am still appealing my DSP claims, so I am still on the Newstart/Jobseeker payment. This time last year I was receiving $285.00 per week. Now I am receiving $550.00 per week on the Jobseeker, plus the extra on the mobility allowance and the extra for being over a certain age and being on newstart/jobseeker for over 9 continuous months.
My health suffered even further trying to make ends meet on the $285.00 per week and to keep on addressing all my health needs. It is really cruel to expect people to live on the previous low amount, whether health concerns or not!
