Not sure but I heard there has been some COVID cases in the Myanmar border town of Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province. Reports of large numbers currently in Myanmar would make this likely and put an end to any chance of reopening borders. Anybody up that way have confirmation on it? The above all seems like pie in the sky dreams by politicians to me even without COVID cases coming into it. They always look at the filthy rich to help tourism when the vast number of visitors are frugal backpackers who spend more because they stay longer. Even Australia knew this decades ago when a study proved it. And young backpackers are less likely to be worried about COVID anyhow. Rich people will stay ay home until all is normal again.

Thai prostitutes working in the Myanmar border city of Tachilek's casinos and golf resorts have had an agreement with some Thai immigration officials to cross back and forward to MaeSai without undergoing the usual border formalities, including a Covid check. The money earned is substantial so needless to say corruption follows, as night does day.

I suppose, but why get your feet wet and risk being robbed by the bandits and drug traffickers who frequent the wilder areas of that northern border when you can cross in comfort for a modest contribution to the police retirement fund? I personally paid 200B for the privilege of a paperwork free crossing into Burma (the now defunct "VIP pass") many times. Well worth not having to watch your passport pages fill up before it's 10 yearly replacement was due.

Me actually after I read that the 4 who crossed by the river then took a taxi from Mai to Pattaya as well as telling the world as bear said. TIT as always. lol.

I wasn't aware they crossed at MaeSot until I read Bear's article, the talk was that they came in near MaeSai which would explain why two were arrested there and why Chiang Rai went back into virtual lockdown. Still, I suppose between the girls, the police and the Pattaya media the truth may be in there somewhere.

My understanding is they have been coming back in both places to escape the massive outbreak in Burma. One case was thought to have been picked up by one person from one returnee at Chiang Rai airport before she flew to Bangkok.

Ok, off-topic I know. Has anyone seen Brussel sprouts in Thailand? I don't miss them but a pommy girl here craves them every Christmas. I'd be in her good books if I could find some. No, not those good books as she is happily married with a new bub. But she is an internet expert and I often need her help. So any little cabbages anyone?

The Royal Project shops used to have them fresh around now. The big supermarkets like Tops usually have them frozen all year round, I've got some in the freezer now.
