I was on the bus from Vientiane to Luang Prabang once around this time of the year and we went through these incredible mountains where it must have been around 0c with icy fog even at midday.

Yes, those mountains are brilliant as been that route many times and was even cold in Luang Prabang one time but no icy fog. But cold with filthy air here every day currently. Surely politicians here should be impeached also for allowing it.

On your info, I will not be going there. So no wiser really. Possibly fly to Had Yai in Songkhla province which I can't see listed anywhere. Or even Songkhla itself after that. Chumphon was another option but it is off-limits 100% also I think. Just desperate to get away from this terrible pollution. Not so much having to isolate for 2 weeks if it was in a regular hotel but I imagine they will force people to pay for THEIR hotels at exorbitant prices. Any Songkla info appreciated as I can't find much at all. Maybe fly to Udon and have a beer with will. Or just grin and bear it like the locals here. Maybe a month in Mai even? Gotta be cleaner than here.

Can anyone remember the member who was trapped in Siem Reap about a year ago? They were trying to get back to Thailand when the borders closed. No word for ages on what happened to them. Hope they are OK.

Can anyone remember the member who was trapped in Siem Reap about a year ago? They were trying to get back to Thailand when the borders closed. No word for ages on what happened to them. Hope they are OK. We have one member in Cambodia and one in the Philippines gone AWOL. Both had visa related issues. Unfortunately PM's and emails from me have gone unanswered. So highlander4000 & jessemojo4 if you get an alert from this post, if you are able, please respond. Cheers bear

Just saw these stats!!!!!!
The first quarter of 2020 saw tourist arrivals in Thailand drop to 6.7 million people, down from 10.7 million from the first quarter of the previous year, as the coronavirus pandemic began to sweep the globe and limit the number of people travelling.
In March 2020, just 800,000 came to Thailand, compared to 3.4 million in 2019, with the country closing its borders to tourists for the month of April.
In Q2 and Q3 of 2020, virtually no tourists arrived in Thailand, with the latest available figures from the Thai Ministry of Tourism showing just 3,065 tourists arrived from abroad in November 2020.

seems like either 3,000 elite tourists in November or they are counting those like I spoke to yesterday who have been renewing their tourist visas for almost a year now. Not a single new average Joe tourist since March last year from all I see.
