Aged care residents get greater GP access The Morrison government is providing $42.8 million for greater face-to-face contact for aged-care residents with their GPs.
Health and Aged Care Minister Greg Hunt says this is part of the government's $17.7 billion response to the aged care royal commission and believes it will allow for better health care.
The program will support the 244,000 Australians in permanent residential aged care.
"This funding boost provides an additional 120,000 GP services to senior Australians living in aged care facilities," Mr Hunt said in a statement on Sunday.
"We recognise the importance of improving health care for people in residential aged care and this is essential in ensuring senior Australians are treated with respect, care and dignity."

Hides thicker than rhinoceroses.....to think they actually have the gall to crow over this. In effect; half of those in residential aged care will get one extra GP visit per year. While it's most certainly essential; it's hardly ensuring senior Australians are being treated with respect, care and dignity IMO!! Bear

That would depend on who their carer was in the facility, I worked in aged care for a few years and was devoted to whoever came into my care paying particular attention to their observations, at the slightest hint of anything being amiss I would always refer my clients/ patients to the GP on site. That's how it works it's the only way it can. The moral of the story is if your carer/Nurse wasn't attentive you were up the creek in a barbed wire boat without a paddle
