I tried those $200 flights to Vietnam … here’s what it’s really likeLow-cost airline VietJet launched with a bang into the Australian market, offering $200 flights from Australia to Vietnam. So what’s it actually like on this cheap-as-chips carrier? Fun fact: it’s currently cheaper to book a flight to Vietnam than many domestic destinations in Australia. And with winter fast approaching, devouring a Banh Mi and a White Lion tinnie by a pool instead of shuddering in the rain while you wait for a bus is a deeply appealing prospect. VietJet has been established in Asia for a while, but this is the first time they have ventured into the Australian market. You can now fly direct from Melbourne/Sydney to Ho Chi Minh, and from June you’ll be able to fly from Brisbane. But as we all know, sometimes flights on budget airlines can be a slog. So I jumped on board to see whether it’s the bargain of the century, or hell in a tin can in the sky … Read more.... www.escape.com.au/destinations/asia/vietnam/i-tried-those-200-flights-to-vietnam-heres-what-its-really-like/news-story/d56b4786d92b32fc8a725e304814cbe9

Been on them a few times domestically and no problems. Never is if they land without flames.

I read this and find they are dearer than Jetstar!!!! Having just flown a couple of times from Tassie to 'the mainland' unfortunately we were way above $200. Granted, they were last minute bookings but we are finding jetstar no longer the cheaper option either. Qantas was actually cheaper on one flight recently and at least had some service.

A couple of times per year here in the P.I we have flight sales or 'Piso Fares' where the 2 main airlines Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines have domestic flights for P1 Piso and international flights for P500 Pesos (PHP). With these sales you really have to be online exactly when the promotion starts at midnight due to high volume online traffic and also the tickets sell like hotcakes.
There is allways a bargain to be bought.
Cheers

Great stuff. You must be excited. But what if you can only get 30 days? Not up with Vietnam visa rules as never stayed more than a few weeks at a time. Can you extend in country? The price for a 3 months visa will be interesting. Well done.

Seems you need to do a visa run to get more than 30 days. I will wait to see if they do the three months. I expect if they do there will be a mad rush. A few years ago I flew to London with Vietnam airlines for 6 weeks. Had to get a visa for Vietnam even though I was in the transit lounge. Needed a three month visa as the return trip was over there 30 days. Didn’t see that coming. I won’t book anything till I know for sure, plus it’s the wet season at that time.

Using Vietjet airlines the cheapest flight I have seen two days ago was $307 Sydney return. Now it’s gone up to $427.
I’m waiting for the government to decide if they will offer the 90 day visa. I can’t be bothered with the 30 day one. They will decide by June 22 from what I understand, I know the airfares will go up but I’m ok with that. Lots of countries offer 90 days now. That one hell of a cheap fare though isn’t it. I was soooooo tempted to buy it but my dates were for 90 days. Time will tell

From experience prices usually go up after you look once. I suspected and was told it is true that they know you are interested so put them up. Always with me. And I usually just start looking with a vague idea. But seems you need to book first time to get the best deals.
