NSW Govt warned of likely petrol price increases: report
The NSW Government agreed to ban regular unleaded petrol and replace it with ethanol fuel despite being told it would push up petrol prices, confidential cabinet minutes show.
The Government also decided that the public should not be informed of the impending price increases at the bowser, the Seven Network reported yesterday.
From July, the Biofuels Act will see all regular unleaded petrol in NSW replaced with E10 - an ethanol blended unleaded fuel.
However, 746,000 cars and 92,000 motorbikes won't be able to run on E10, and will be forced to use the more expensive Premium Unleaded.
Minutes from a cabinet meeting in December, obtained by Seven, show the Government was warned against dumping regular unleaded by its own energy department and two independent reports.
However, the Government ignored that advice and resolved not to tell drivers about the higher prices they would face, Seven reported.
The minutes show that cabinet ''did not agree that fuel retailers ... actively convey and advertise that change to consumers''.
NSW Energy Minister Chris Hartcher has denied the Government is keeping motorists in the dark, and says more information will be issued before July.

They stated on the news tonight, that the only person who will make a lot of money from this move, is the owner of the only ethanol petrol company in NSW.
Seems he has been spending a lot of time meeting with NSW politicians lately, and has contributed to their campaign funds over the years.
Rob the people to make the rich richer. Thanks again to our caring politicians.
