Im finding it difficult to spend a lot of time on the computer because of my Disability's, so I can not put as much time into this forum as I would like Sorry Gentlemen. Something that C/L wont tell you and Im sure there are a lot more. IS there a difference between the Age Pension and the Disability Support Pension? The simple answer is no.
Both pay the same rate, give access to the same allowances, and are more or less treated the same way when it comes to income and assets.
However, for a few people who are 65 and over, it may be worthwhile continuing to receive the Disability Support Pension, if they were in receipt of that payment before they reached Age Pension age.
That’s because if they were renting privately, receiving Rent Assistance and sharing the house with someone who is not their partner, once they move to an Age Pension, they will start to receive the sharer’s rate of Rent Assistance, which is paid at 75 per cent of what they would have received before.
The sharer’s rate of Rent Assistance applies to any income support recipient in the aforementioned situation, except for recipients of Carer Payment or Disability Support Pension.
The idea is that people in this situation may well have to share rent, but are not in a couple relationship.
There is nothing stopping people remaining on the Disability Support Pension or Carer Payment once they’ve reached Age Pension age, so if you are someone in the situation mentioned above, it may be a good idea to stay on that payment.
In the meantime, CPSA will continue its lobbying efforts to have the sharer rate of Rent Assistance scrapped, so that share renters don’t have their Rent Assistance reduced.www.cpsa.org.au/VOICE/article.php?id=525

I received the form from C/L to change over to OAP, mistakes on the form were: I left Australia 2005 and went to country Y to live>> Wrong, I left Australia in June 2000 to live in Country X. Acording to C/L Im still living in Country Y>> Wrong Im now living in Country Z, you think they would at least get this one right as they sent the forms here. Also noted that Im a resident of country Y, no wrong again.
I called C/L & they tell me the info on their computer says I left Australia in 2000 for just one week, I lfet for 1 year. Further in the conversation he asked me If I was still a resident of Y country, my reply was I have been a citizen and Resident of Australia since I was born in 1945, his reply was you can not be a resident of Australia because you live outside Australia. I went on to explain to this F$%^ wit that was only C/L Policy and not the law. I explained that the law by the Immigration Dept will over ride any C/L Policy, he seems to agree not that that would mean much coming from this C/L retard.
Is the incorrect information put on these forms on purpose hoping we just sign them and then they could get us on Fraud?
After changing the incorrect info on their forms, I also put a footnote that I am an Australian Resident and always will be.
I also asked him if there would be any difference in changing from DSP to OAP his reply was NO ( Hence my previous post). So nothing has changed we can not believe one word these people at C/L tell us.
Some advice here please. Should I request a copy of my complete file? If so how does one go about it?
Cheers.

Have you talked to Welfare Rights banker? I wasn't aware of the CPSA, have you contacted them at all? By the way, you can say wit here, as long as you're referring to Centrelink.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ..the matter was about the Old Age Pension.. Although the case refers to the definition of 'residency' I was informed briefly by Centrelink some time ago, that those persons already on a DSP and on their Portability Programme would automatically qualify for the Old Age Pension once they reached 65 and did not have to return to Australia for a set period of time as they already had qualified and it was just a matter of 'in-house' documentation change. Who and what can you believe!

Sorry about the long absence guys.
C/L phoned me to say I had made a mistake on the form about transferring from DSP to OAP, When I told him that I had a copy of the form I had filled in he backed off saying that all was OK. While I had this guy on the phone for 25 minutes I asked him about all of the mistakes on my file his reply was none of that is important (WTF)
I asked him to send me the form for me to get ALL information on my file which I have now received. ( The Form)
Something that did seem strange is when I asked him for a reference # for the phone call he said that because he wasn't calling from a call center he could not give one & for me just to make a note of the date of the call.
Since then I have received the form and a hand written note from him saying that I would be changed over to the OAP automatically on my 65 Birthday and that I didnt need to do anything further.
Lets wait & see because I dont trust the Bastards.
Cheers Banker

I just spoke with C/L about the change over from DSP to OAP. Just to clarify Im grandfathered to the old system because I left Australia before September 2000. I never have to return if I dont want to. My DSP will be automatically changed to OAP with my 65 birthday. Which will be on If I return to Australia after I get my OAP I can apply for my residency if Im choosing to stay in Australia and get all of my benefits back. After that If I leave Australia I must return every 13 weeks so it seems that I would come under the current rules of the day. If living outside of Australia the payment for OAP is the same as DSP. Hope that helps.
