Disability support pensioners will be able to work up to 30 hours a weekPEOPLE on disability support pensions will be able to work twice as many hours without losing payments. The Federal Government is also set to impose new participation requirements on certain disability support recipients who have some capacity to work. Under the reforms, those on disability support pensions will be able to work up to 30 hours a week - double the current limit - before having their payments suspended or cancelled. The Government estimates it will encourage 4000 more people to start work and about 3900 more to increase their hours. The changes will mean disability pension recipients aged under 35 who have the capacity to work at least eight hours a week will have to develop participation plans with Centrelink. This could involve improving their job readiness, searching for employment or undertaking training, volunteering or rehabilitation. Attending Centrelink interviews will be compulsory but doing the activities in the participation plan will be voluntary. www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/work-boost-for-disability-pensioners/story-fn7x8me2-1226272160856
