Trying to get my flight back to Thailand booked now (I fly back for my check in next week), interestingly the budget airlines no longer rule the cheap fares. For the dates I want, and I'm flexible, Qantas/BA beat the best of the others by about $200 on a return flight.

I think that's the secret, booking well ahead. However when you have the distrust of Centrelink and it's minions that I have there's a degree of paranoia about not being allowed to leave on time.... like a surprise interview... and losing the money for the flight. Plus I always go to Adelaide, my parents are pushing 90+ and every visit could be my last.

I was trying to find a cheap return ticket but I have decided to see if C/L will be making any drastic changes to my pension after I hit the big 65. So Im waiting until my first pension payment in December, before I book any flights.
I usually fly Air Asia because they stop on the Gold Coast but one must book at least 3 months in advance to get a decent discount.
I just bought a R/T ticket PP 2 BKK for February with AirAsia for a friend of mine $85. complete with all taxes.
I can usually get R/T PP 2 G.C. for under $600 including taxes if I book well in advance.

Sounds great, I think I'll only pay one-way on my return to Thailand this time, get a bit more flexibility on return.

Just go and look at the Air Asia website. I recently bought tickets for $264 RETURN from Australia to Kuala Lumpur. I am looking to smash my own records and buy UNDER $200 return to Asia. I bought another ticket, a 4000km flight, for 1.56 centsAUD per kilometre. Go figure!

any one know a good route medan indo to camobodge? Malaysian seem to be the go for simplicity, personally I'd look at a ferry to Malaysia and take the best flight from KL.

Not really, once you're granted your 13 weeks you can go where you like, I seriously doubt they will pull the pin on people already away once they have agreed to the 13 week portability.

Northern Sumatra, there's a ferry runs across the Malacca Strait to Malaysia... to Penang I think. Otherwise you can fly direct to KL with Malaysian.
