Minister and Parliamentary Secretary's Message
A message from the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers
Welcome to the Australian Government's International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) website. As the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Carers, we are privileged to be involved in promoting such an important day.
The Australian Government is committed to ensuring people with disability, their families and carers are recognised and encouraged to participate in the community.
IDPwD promotes the participation of people with disability in society and the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights.
This website has been created to help you understand and celebrate IDPwD, and we hope you find the information and resources interesting and useful.
Last year over 720 events were held across the country to celebrate IDPwD and the incredible contributions that people with disability make to the Australian community. In 2010 we hope even more people will join in the celebrations.
Finally, we would like to thank all those who were involved in the 2009 National Disability Awards celebrations, where six outstanding Australians were recognised for their achievements. Information on the 2009 finalists and Award recipients is available on the National Disability Awards page of this website.
We encourage you to get involved in activities in your local communities to support and celebrate IDPwD in 2010.
