For permanent departures, advising Centrelink in advance, rent assistance stops from the day of departure, and the Pension Supplement reduces from $60.60 to $21.10.
The reason for the reduction in the Supplement is that it covers inside Australia costs for which a Supplement was provided when the OAP was changed in 2009. These included Pharmaceutical Allowance and Telephone Allowance and some sundries.
Out of those sundry allowances some $20.10 is deemed as being exportable...............which exact parts I have not been able to track down.
Now, if one just wanders off and does not return after six weeks, then if not approved for portability the whole lot ceases, and if approved for portability, the Pension Supplement reduces to $20.10 and the rent allowance ceases.
