It's smoke and mirrors..... look at all the money we spend on immigrants, look at all the money we spend fighting terrorism... even the politicians pay rises are crap issues to stop people looking at the real problems of jobs going overseas, wages dropping in real value and huge spending cuts. These are the real issues, multi BILLION dollar issues with all that money going into the pockets of the rich.

Talking of marriage, what does the partner of a married DSP get?
If the partner has no income can she get the NewStart?
And does the DSP who has the non income earning partner get the married rate?

Im my case, I get the married rate of DSP and my partner gets Parenting payments (partnered). Before my partner came to Australia I received the single rate of DSP (when in a relationship)under section 24.

Yes, the Parenting Partner payment would put people back into a couple payment but Partnered Parent payment ceases when the youngest turns 6? or 7?
For Single Parent rate it ceases when the youngest turns 8 .
What happens then if there are no kids? assuming that there is no eligibility for Carer Payment for the non DSP partner.

Single parent payment and carer payment have a 2 year residence requirement. My partner could get parenting payment (partnered) as our youngest was 1 at the time of arrival. If we didn't have children my partner could have gotten Newstart and been excused from looking for work as she immediately began studying full time at AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program).
