After working here in Thailand for some years I decided to return, learn some Thai (properly) and am in the process of arranging a long term visa based on age.. normally called a retirement visa. I am 63 and returning to live in Oz permanently soon and claim the OAP. My question is this; Given that proving residency in Oz can be difficult if you have lived overseas for a time, might it be better NOT to go down the road of a 'retirement' visa here in Thailand as when I do return to Oz it may be used against my residency status. Last time I was back in Oz I was there for over 18 months, postal address etc., as my place was rented out. I would be interested in any thoughts.

I have a non-Imm B for Thailand. Centrelink know this and have never commented on it. I would think that any sort of Thai "residency" visa like retirement before you are 65 would be risky, presuming of course, that they knew about it. If you want to talk about it a bit more, give me a PM, it's the little open file icon under my board name on the left. Some things are a bit better discussed off the open forum.
