Terry, Everyone is different. I would still choose Asia I think its because I have been here for so many years. My first trip to Asia was in 1981, I have lived in The Philippines, Cambodia and Thailand. When I had my business I traveled all over Asia. I returned to Australia in 2011 for a month and I felt like a fish out of the water, I still have family and friends in OZ.
I love Australia and always will but its not the place for me to live.

Asia for sure. I found a website the other day. It has a cost of living comparison section. I am living in Perth but would rather be back in Pattaya. It shows you would need around 72,217.36฿ (2,258.45A$) in Pattaya to maintain the same standard of life that you can have with 6,400.00A$ in Perth. My pension will be a lot closer to the $2.258 than the $6.400 in Perth. I have been back 6 months and only 18 to go.I Love Australia but can't wait to get back to Thailand. Have a look at the website; www.numbeo.com

Interesting Website Aussie Bernie.
What cost of living swings on is bricks and mortar.... the roof over your head. If you could get decent free or very cheap accommodation in any country the rest is easy. Unless of course you have serious bad habits.... a non-smoker/occasional drinker with $500 a fortnight left over to spend on food is going to eat well anywhere.

Hi Terry:)) You cant compare Australia to any Asian country except Japan maybe; which by all reported accounts is even more expensive than here! Obviously its economy based, and the less revenue or slower economy a country suffers, is tangible to its cost of living! Its Asia long term for me Terry; but its still good to call "Australia Home"! Good Luck where ever you end up mate! Cheetal:))

I think its difficult to draw a true comparison since the overriding factor after money is the desire for female company and Im not talking about perving on go go dancers, mind you nothing wrong with that since you can go see them in Oz as well
now when you add in the "love" factor then Asia beats oz by miles , no contest!

In terms of the cost of a night out, a date, then a restaurant followed by a few drinks and maybe a proper night club would be a fraction of the cost it is in Australia.
A weekend away to a beach town or the mountains would also be a lot cheaper.

terry, If money were no object i would live in Australia and go to SE Asia any time I felt like it, whatever length of time I felt like and wherever I felt like going..... ;D
I am only pissed off that the weak kneed Poms didn't keep driving and take out the French in Indo-China after thrashing the crap out of them at Waterloo and then boot the Spaniards out of the Phils.
My mob got stopped in South Australia, Victoria and NSW.
We could all have been living in paradise!
And that is why I would live in the Philippines.
