This has nothing to do with DSP but some people on this forum may have arthritis and be suffering unnecessarily.
I'm in my late 50s and have had constant lower back pain for the last 5 years. It actually started 2 years before that when I had to bend over to work, but since 2007 it has been a constant low-level nagging pain. Two doctors prescribed anti-inflammatory tablets, but they only half fixed it. During Summer and living in the heat of the tropics it was the same. The slight inflammation caused my lower back muscles to tighten up, especially first thing in the morning or after a few hours on my feet.
The doctor said it was osteo arthritis, that there was a little I could do about it, and that there were many guys my age he'd seen with the same symptoms. It even affected one of the knuckles on my right hand which has seen a lot of work.
I tried taking things like fish oil capsules (for the omega-3 essential fatty acids) and apple cider vinegar (which had a marginal effect) but nothing really worked. This worried me as if it becomes systemic, inflammation can eventually lead to prostate cancer, diabetes or pancreatitis.
Recently I researched it a little and came across one webpage which stated that magnesium deficiency was almost always associated with inflammatory conditions. I went to the health food store and bought some tablets which had magnesium in 4 different forms (as an aspartate, a phosphate, an amino acid chelate, and an orotate). Somewhere between 10 days and 2 weeks later, I suddenly realized my pain was gone completely. And it's stayed away. So far it's been a month and I feel so good I'm exercising a lot more. The pain in my knuckle has also completely disappeared.
If you Google it, there are many articles expounding the virtues of magnesium but you might be forgiven for taking them with a grain of salt. In my case it really worked, so I want to share this. Try to get one which has magnesium in a few different forms, as it's possible you may not assimilate it well in one form only.
I you suffer from an inflammatory condition rather than just unspecified "back pain" (which could be anything), I heartily recommend taking the tablets. There is no downside....you can not overdose (unless, I suppose, you take enormous amounts). And as long as you do not have kidney disease or an obstructed bowel, it's safe.
And the only cost of trying it is the cost of a bottle of tablets. Just make sure you get ones like mine with magnesium in a few different forms. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I'm wondering how many people out there are suffering unnecessarily. Not to mention the recent research showing that Alzheimers is associated with inflammation......there have been a couple of people have been largely cured of it by being given anti inflammatorys.
