I've never seen or heard of a recording of a phone call mentioned in an appeal procedure. Every time the investigating officer refers to his notes much the same as police do in courtroom dramas.
Once again I doubt Centrelink would produce outright lies as evidence, it's just not worth it. Exaggeration, entrapment, omission, sure.....

Hi glen I have spoken to 2 C/L officers today and yesterday I have conflicting information on the ammount of time u can stay after 6 weeks. 1 said 24 weeks the other said 13 weeks. You dont have to reapply after 6 weeks you have a certain peroid unpaid to return before this happens...( they said payments will be suspened not cancelled). Ask the same question to 3 C/L officers and get 3 different answers this has been proven time and time again...... Like I keep saying if the decision to be made by C/L is important get it in writing to safe guard yourself.

I'm heading back os soon and will be asking them what happens if I want to stay 13 weeks. I'm also going to inform them that I wish to tape the conversation, and that its nothing personal, just that I am an extremely paranoid person and dont trust the people at the top. I will also advise them about the lies Jenny Macklin sent to my local member about me 'choosing' to 'live' abroad. this was an outright lie. It's one reason for my extreme paranoia of the govt...

Mate, you can ask them for a letter and wish in one hand and shit in the other.... They don't write letters unless it's in their interest. Do you think I should go to the appeals process with an "I said, they said" argument?

We discussed this and a couple of members who were former law enforcement guys said that you don't need to inform them of the recording as long as one party to the call (you) has already agreed to it. I had a pretty good search on the 'net and couldn't find any different. It's only illegal, unless you have a warrant, if you tap into a call between two other people. If you want that recording device of mine sing out and I'll try to get it to you.

Do you think I should go to the appeals process with an "I said, they said" argument? If they don't want to put it writing ask yourself "WHY" its because they are trying to snow you, put you off guard which will give them the upper hand. The old smoke and mirrors trick. If you can get it in writing or at least tape the conversation you will NOT have to go through the " I said He Said" syndrome. Then they will have a hand full of shit..... ;D

You get a letter when the deal is done; as we have found out, often to our disadvantage, suggestions or promises made at discussion level don't always come to fruition. I like taping, at least you have something to take to another authority like the ombudsman but I'm just not tech savvy enough to make it work, let alone to copy it onto paper which is why I'm giving the recorder away. I'm learning though, I have a marvellous gadget made by Steve Jobs descendants that will not only record but with a little fiddling and the correct "apps" will write and print the dialogue. This will still only ever be a stop gap measure, Centrelink can deny that the officer was right, that they were mistaken, even that they had no authority to say that... it wouldn't be the first public servant to get the rough end of the pineapple. We need to catch them out in breach of the legislation, not being paid when you are legally entitled to a payment CANNOT be swept under the carpet, the HAVE to produce their reasons for doing this and this is where we have them in the appeals courts. I'm going to town to buy some cheese... say what you like about Australia, there's no shortage of cheese.

There's cheese around in Thailand now, Mainland and Bega and the price isn't too bad.
Back in the day I carted 20kg of King Island fillet steak to the Philippines in a fridgy bag for a mate. I thought the guy at the airport check in was going to have a fit because the bag wasn't all that big and he kept tapping the scale gauge like he thought there was something wrong with it.
When I got to Manila it was the last bag onto the luggage carousal by about ten minutes... I had this vision of it winging it's way around the world getting riper and riper... lol.

I wonder if just enquiring can red flag you? They probably get a list of people that they HAVE to investigate every day without adding to the number at random.

i think its a purely legitamate request to tape a conversation, especially due to todays ploitcally correct society. also I'm abiding by all the laws. I just want to know if anything should delay the trip what would happen after 13 weeks? im pretty sure ive been flagged anyway. about 3-4yrs ago I was pulled up by customs and asked do i live in a house in australia and some other stuff, like why am i travelling light? nothing since then though... yet!

I've a mate who travels regularly on business and rcreation. He hates customs and carries a printed page of the Customs and immigration Act that states they are only allowed to ask you questions related to the import of goods you may be carrying.
I'm not sure it does him a lot of good, he gets the full search process quite regularly. I find it does no harm to be polite but I do have the occasional snap at them when they get too personal.

yeah, usually the first thing I say is: crikey its good to be home mate, cant wait to get a good aussie rump steak into me! that usually breaks the ice. Ive never carried contraband, but a mate did and got pulled up on a blowgun from the philippines. ever since then theyve grilled him everytime in Sydney...
