On 25 January 2016 CL provided a letter stating I had DSP and Indefinite Portability of payment. It says : "This letter is to confirm that you are currently receiving a Disability Support Pension from Centrelink Australia and this pension can be paid to you indefinitely while you are travelling outside of Australia".
It mentions no time frame.
I requested this letter in support of a visa application plus statement of earnings.

The letter I subsequently received just said, tell us of your travel plans! I put it up on the forum somewhere. So just verbal, but they still pay me.

I recently had JCA for Unlimited Portability.I have severe impairment , 20 points one table and 2 lots of 10 points other tables.Nothing given for Mental Health Table. Unsucessfull. Clinical Pshycologist report, stated I couldn't do any work for more than 2 hours per week. What should have been stated was 2 hours per week , for 5 years. As I found out with Phone call to Clink today. So I have to go back and get updated report, and then give to Clink with my appeal . Hey @symi56 Stick with it mate, if I may call you that. What you mention about the 5 years rang a bell for me. I went through a doctor for medical and other services like lung capacity and psychological and I'm pretty sure the doctor, in his report to Centrelink in support of my application for UP, said I could not work for more than 2 hours per week for at least the next 5 years. Don't give up.

symi56 keep going. many places on this forum advise that medical reports must be 100% perfect and need to be very accurate or c/l will pick holes in them. If you have 20 points and no work capacity then they are all bluff. Please try to sue them also after you win. They have wasred your time at best and comitted fraud at worst.

Syni56, i have suggested many times before for problems like yours i would be seeking a pro bono lawyer through the law institute in your state as i did and got UP because of him. C/L and politicians, ombudsman were all totally useless and only fobbed me off and lied to me. I was similar age to you also when i got it and even though i was 100% sure i qualified if it wasn't for the lawyer i would now be homeless in oz. C/L will continually lie to you to put you off. don't believe anything they say if you have any doubt at all. good luck.

Email from a member who I know personally who just reached the Age Pension and went to visit family overseas.
He claims his pension was reduced by "10%" after "5 weeks". Very obscure reply to an inquiry to MyGov so he panicked and came back early. He has 34.5 years AWLR.

OK, it's a "mistake", "phoned Hobart and they admitted no change and they screwed up and I was to ignore the letter". Now this is something that I would go to Current Affair about, he was visiting his grandchildren whom he had not seen for 5 years or more, the Not Really The News loves this sort of thing, it shows they really care about the downtrodden pensioner. Sells a lot of shampoo as well but there you go. ...and missed Christmas...

Hi every one, I just spoke to International services about portability. As some know I am 64 in Dec and want to return to Thailand till I am 65.5 to get my pension. The lady at centrelink international told me I would have to wait 2 years in Australia on my return for my pension and that was in legislation . I always thought it was a centrelink rule and not in legislation. Also you only waited the time you where away. ie: 1.5 years if I go at 64. Do you have any information on this as I never trust centrelink. They out right lie.

I think you will find most thing in Centrelink are from Legislation There has always been the 35 year residency to get 100% pension Also the 2 year rule before or after you receive the pension It has been posted many times here about the 2 year rule You may try yo appeal it but you may find now They will dig in there heels as the LNP are getting more tougher Not wanting to give anyone any money
