When I talk to people at CL, they keep telling me things like, "oh, but you're one of the few who wants to work, most people we deal with don't want to work at all." But most of the other DSPers I know would love to be offered a job, especially if it accommodated their disability (e.g. part-time, flexible hours, option to work from home / telecommute, accessible building, necessary aids available)... but employers aren't exactly bending over backwards to accommodate us, even when they can't find an able-bodied person to do the job at all.
So, members, would you take a job if you were offered one?
And if you'd like to provide a longer explanation about why you would or wouldn't take a job (or if the options in the poll didn't include the reason that applies to you), please leave a comment.

To get started: yes, I would take a job if I was offered one. I would only be able to work very limited hours in an office though (two half-days a week) and I would need some flexibility around exactly when I came in, as my health is unpredictable. Alternatively, if they would let me work from home, I could work longer hours, and more reliable hours. Unfortunately employers aren't lining up to hire someone who'll only turn up twice a week, not sure which days, only for half the day... or someone who's lying in bed with their laptop most days. But if they change their minds, here I am!

After all the crap they put us through to get "IP" and now that I got it; there's no way I'd even consider losing my freedom by working for some menial wage. With that being said love; if they ever allowed us our rightfull dignities and freedom of movement and choice, I would most probably consider having a "Lazarus" experience and maybe at least try to work? But I bet my bottom dollar that I'd be sacked before smoko and so the process starts again; hahaha:) Cheetal...

There's something wrong with the poll, 9 votes from 5 people... I haven't even looked at the new system yet, can people vote without logging on? Hang on I've just read the small print, you can select up to 6 answers.

Yes I would take a job if offered to me, I enjoy work. This is the reason I do some volunteer work, just wish I could get paid for it.

I don't have any qualifications at all, so any job I would be able to get would be a labour one, which I don't think I could physically cope with over an extended period of time. What I would like to do is to go to Uni and maybe get a degree. Once my partner is here, I may just do that.

They only thing I ever liked about work was pay day, and because of my many impediments I ended up chasing jobs in the building game right across Australia and two other countries in Europe even. I have also given my time free to many worthwhile charities, but when they cant even supply cold water under an Aussie sun, then they lost my vote there also. The one commonality with pay day the world over I experienced, is that some prick is doing his very best to rip you off and feather their own greedy nest. I'm happy on the pension, because I don't have to grab these arseholes by the throat anymore and or threaten them with violence. Money and work are necessary evils, but it makes men/women do evil things; business = profits = money = Greed! Nothing will change that cycle, and I'm so thankful to be rid of it's evil necessity; work that is! I am now in a position to enable people to eat cheaply, for the poor to have dried fish at least, and its not all about profits. Its about decency and humanity; after-all, were all entitled to afford the food so we can make a turd tomorrow and not for someone to make a turd of us; am I right? That's my opinion on it anyway Team:) Cheetal...
