From the Frequent Flyer forum.
Webjet Fails to take-off
One member this week is shocked and appalled at the hidden fees and charges involved when using Webjet to book a flight.
This member was attempting to redeem some hard-earned Flybuys points and was excited by the prospect of a fifty dollar saving. However, upon attempting to check-out, a number of tricky fees and charges suddenly became payable.
The perceived $50 saving soon became all but obsolete. There was a $19.95 booking fee, a $12.95 booking price guarantee fee and credit card surcharge fee of $7.70. These charges quickly accumulated to make the Flybuys redeem not viable for our member.
A number of our members chipped in and recounted many stories of similar Webjet woes. One member believes there is a distinct and automatic disadvantage from the outset when considering using Webjet. There is no BPAY or bank deposit option when paying for your fares so you automatically incur the credit card surcharge irrespective of your purchase.
Our members are also annoyed that Webjet pass on the service fee charged by the airline even when Webjet are the merchant. Further, our members have discovered that logistical problems can and do occur with Webjet bookings. For example, any schedule changes to flights will be advised to Webjet rather than the individual passenger. Furthermore, if you arrive at the airport without an e-ticket the airline cannot assist as it is Webjet's responsibility for issuing the ticket.
