I finally had my interview for UP 3 weeks ago. I found the assessor to be very compassionate. She asked me many questions and towards the end of the interview said she thought it was important I go overseas as soon as possible (to live with family member) and would be recommending my application is approved. She told me I could expect to recieve the letter in less than 2 weeks, so I should plan my travel in about 2.5 weeks. 2 weeks later I called CL to ask when I would receive the letter. They informed me it would take around 3 months. I was quite shocked as it was a stark contrast to what I had been told at the interview. The person on the phone said there were a lot of applicants and a big back log. Does anyone know why the lady at the assessment told me it would be 2 weeks? I was wondering how long it has taken others to get an answer back?

It's great you had positive feed back from your assessor but she really had no right to give you a date for the results of your application. Personally I don't believe it will take 3 months, Centrelink have been getting through them quicker than that but 3 months seems to be what they are telling people to cover themselves.
All you can really do is sit it out, I wouldn't be booking any flights yet though.

All you can really do is sit it out, I wouldn't be booking any flights yet though. From the date of my interview it took 92 days. From the date that Centrelink International told me that they had received my application took 85 days. My assessor never indicated at all that she would recommend me as eligable for UP. I am still frightened that they may change their mind before I leave! As Banjo said, and it is unfortunate what your were told by your assessor in relation of 2 weeks to make a decision, don't go booking any tickets just yet. I think it is fantastic that your assessor was able to indicate to you that your application would be successful. All the best.

But the fact is that between now and the election and it is possible that one of our prospective political masters could say something so stupid that my UP is dust. But I deal with it.

It's in the legislation NFA, they have to go to parliament to change it, parliament is shut down until after the election.

It's called paranoia caused by dealing with Centrelink for too many years. If something can go wrong it will.
