October 06, 2013 THEY came from nowhere, obscure, multicultural, unfinished but ambitious people, wanting a shot in Clive's Army. Most have disappeared back from where they came, for now, but the Palmer United Party has won enough seats to give them the balance of power in the Senate. Now Tony Abbott needs Clive Palmer, whose candidates are more naturally aligned to him than Labor, to deliver him the power to pass laws through both houses of parliament when the new Senate takes its place from July next year. www.heraldsun.com.au/news/opinion/clive-palmer-an-overnight-political-force/story-fni0ffsx-1226733427593

Palmer pledges extra $150 a fortnight on disability pension26th Aug 2013 THE Palmer United Party has promised to increase the disability pension by $150 a fortnight.Party leader Clive Palmer announced the policy to journalists in Canberra today, saying the federal government's national disability scheme did not go far enough. Mr Palmer said the scheme only catered for people aged up to 65. He said his changes would mean that 100% of people with disabilities would benefit through either the NDIS or the Centrelink pension increase. Asked how he would fund it, Mr Palmer said it was a matter of priorities. "There are some things that you do because it is the right thing to do,'' Mr Palmer said. "Do we think national broadband is more important than people suffering in their own homes?'' Mr Palmer said the federal government should be spending more on providing those with disabilities the ability to lead as meaningful and productive lives as possible. He said society was too quick to judge people by their appearance or disability rather than what they could contribute. Mr Palmer said the policy would benefit 25% of Australians with some form of disability. The announcement comes on top of his plan to offer tax cuts of $2500 to average Australians by reducing the tax rate by 15%. Mr Palmer said he had announced policies in the past few days which would provide a combined $94 billion stimulus to the national economy. He said the policy was funded through savings in Centrelink payments as more people obtained employment through a productive economy as well as extra GST revenues as people spent money. The mining magnate said it would particularly benefit the construction industry. He said it may lead to interest rate increases but that would be a good thing for independent retirees relying on that income from investments. Mr Palmer said it was a better to have a vibrant economy with 4 to 5% base rates with full employment than people relying on jobs. www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/palmer-pledges-extra-150-fortnight-disability-pens/1997355/

Abbott's the Prime Minster not PAlmer so l wouldn't count on $150 extra Palmer hold the balance of power tho. So if Abbott wants to pass reform off carbon tax, mining tax, sell off Australian owned assets such as ... Australia post, Medibank private, The CSIRO ... the Australian institute off sport, the ABC & SBS t.v & radio. & If Abbott wants to pass work choices style reform such as abolishing penalty rates for all workers. & Reform/reduce the super anuation contributions requirements & unfair dismissal laws for business owners. Changes to the GST. My point ... Abbott & the LNP have a long wish list / hit list. & im sure the Clive Palmer's & other independents have a wish list off their own. So if Abbott wants their vote. He's gonna need to cut deals, either way. & who knows .... maybe Palmer will get his way & deliver on the $150 a fortnight. We Will need to wait an see what happens. .... fingers crossed.

If they increased the DSP by $150 per week l bet they would probably fund it by kicking a couple hundred thousand onto Newstart, I think Palmer could be useful if he can block any more negative changes to the DSP as long as he doesn't do a deal with Abbott and sell us out

I agree ... i mean it's good palmer is pushing for a $150 pay increase to DSP, But when push comes to shove ... If Abbott sez Palmer can have his $150 per fortnight pay increase to DSP, but Miners will need to pay more taxes .. I bet Palmer will put his own interests 1st as they all do in the end.

It seems like PAlmer is on our side but it seems to me just about every time any government labor or liberal passes laws making it hard for people on welfare it always gets through the senate, like the Crackdown on the DSP in 2011 with the harsh new medical tables and reducing time we can spend overseas, Mutual obligation for under 35's on DSP, kicking single parents off their pension, Howards compulsory work for the dole. l guess they try to sell it to the senate as ' tough love' we are doing it for the own good of people on welfare when all they really care about is saving money. SO l wouldn't be surprised if palmer sells us out or does a deal with abbott if he trys to pass negative changes to the DSP . At the end of the day they put their own interests first no matter how much they say they want to help us

It's about money frugle, no government is going to get elected by promising to make people pay more taxes. Their spending cuts have to come from somewhere and welfare is a soft target. The media cons working Australians with stories of people spending their dole and pensions on drugs and booze so they say we are getting too much money. This was the main argument we faced with the portability... if you can afford to fly overseas you're being paid too much. I even had Centrelink officers tell me this to my face.
