That coast seems to cop it every time, the typhoons come straight in off the Pacific. The thoughts and best wishes of DSPoverseas and it's members are with everyone there today.

Oh definitely, about 150 km of where Banjo has been and north of what he has charted. Completely unknown beaches, darkish sand, desolate, about 9 km north of Vigan, and 7 km down to the coast, passing our farm. From Sept to Jan, up to 6 ft, but usually 4 ft and surfable. I get down there every AM, like today. My fitness is still ok, but about 30 mins is quite tiring. No undertow, but close enough to shore that each ride will bring you back to the beach. Body surfing. I have a routine of biking down there. If no surf I have a swim.

Leyte and Bacolod seem to have copped it. And no respite for the people in Bohol.

My girl`s family is at Lyte, south of Tacloban, Been trying to contact them to see if they are ok but no signal. She pray for them now. Definitely no signal and no electric in all Leyte. ABS/CBN had their anchorman down there and he was not able to submit his report last night. Tacloban was hit badly by rising floods, high winds, but per the earlier reports most areas were evacuated by Thursday PM. I know I'm not giving good news. But only 3 death or missing persons all areas so far.

Philippines: 'bodies in the streets', with many feared dead in typhoon HaiyanReports from worst-hit areas suggest the death toll will rise significantly as storm's passing reveals scale of damage At least 100 people may have died in the Philippines from the impact of super typhoon Haiyan, a senior government official said on Saturday. Bodies were lying in the streets, according to an initial report from an aviation officer in the central city of Tacloban, said Captain John Andrews, deputy director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever to hit land, was leaving the Philippines behind on Saturday morning local time, having flattened houses, triggered landslides and floods and knocked out power and communications across a number of islands. Nearly 750,000 people were forced to flee their homes. Forecasters said the storm was expected to pick up renewed strength over the South China Sea on its way toward Vietnam. There were hopes the Philippines had avoided a worse disaster because the rapidly moving typhoon blew away before wreaking more damage, officials said. But because communications were severed, it was impossible to know the full extent of casualties and damage. www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/09/philippines-bodies-streets-hundreds-feared-dead-typhoon-haiyan

Typhoon Haiyan: thousands feared dead in PhilippinesDeath toll still unknown as path of destruction leaves many parts of the Philippines inaccessible to government and aid officials At least 1,200 people have been killed and whole cities flattened after Typhoon Haiyan raced through the Philippines, leaving a trail of destruction that officials have compared to the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami. The super-typhoon – considered the strongest recorded storm to ever hit land – made landfall on Samar and Leyte islands in the eastern Visayas at about 4.40am on Friday local time, with winds up to 315km/h (195mph) tearing roofs off buildings, turning roads into rivers full of debris and knocking out electricity pylons. With many provinces left without power or telecommunications, and airports in the hardest-hit areas, such as Tacloban in Leyte province, in tatters, experts say it is still impossible to know the full extent of the storm's damage – or deliver badly needed aid. Roughly 12 hours after the 600km (370-mile)-wide Haiyan blew west towards Vietnam, where it is expected to make landfall early Sunday, officials and aid workers are only now beginning to piece together details on the number of dead and injured. The Philippine Red Cross estimates that more than 1,000 people were killed in Tacloban alone, where bodies have been found "piled up around the roads" and in churches – with government figures showing that more than 4 million have been directly affected. The World Food Programme has mobilised some $2m (£1.25m) in aid and aims to deliver 40 tonnes of fortified biscuits to victims within the next few days. www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/10/typhoon-haiyan-thousands-dead-philippines

Has anyone heard from hypoman? I left a message on the forum but no reply. I just read a report that Bohol is apparently okay... they still have power outages and can only recharge mobiles wherever they can find a generator...

I'd imagine that there would be phone towers and telephone lines down everywhere.

I'd imagine that there would be phone towers and telephone lines down everywhere. I think the real extent will take days+ as there are so many roads to clear plus power poles and lines are smashed.
