We have been closely following Super Typhoon Haiyan, category 5, that is heading our way with reported inner wind speeds up to 250km and will be making landfall sometime tomorrow night/Friday morning. weather.com.ph/announcements/super-typhoon-haiyan-update-number-006Went and did a provisioning run today and will be bringing loose tables and chairs inside tomorrow. I expect the power will be out tomorrow evening for some time so have stocks of candles, batteries etc. After the earthquake I went and bought a transistor as even the mobile phone network was effected then. At this stage it is modeled to make landfall at Leyte which is north from where I am. Trust all Philippine DSPers stay safe.

Many corrugated iron roofs in Asia are still nailed down. Anyone living in such a property would be well advised to buy a box of roofing screws and a tek gun and get a local roof worker to fix it down properly.
One of the leading causes of casualties during cyclones is sheets of roofing iron flying around like giant razorblades.

Yeah, they are nailed onto bamboo, then the whole structure is lashed onto the top, but correct they don't nail it down. It was not the one that I put on, this was their outdoor kitchen. And the roof came off intact and they just tied it back on. No typhoon here. Just had a surf in some moderate 4 foot waves.

They get a bit of surf in northern Luzon, mainly on the Pacific coast I think but I was jet skiing with friends at La Union back in the day and the weather came up nasty and we had a bit of trouble getting the ski back on the trailer. Edit: Well there you go, let Google be your friend.

Its 6.40pm and we are literally in 'the calm before the storm'.
A lot of high level cloud moving overhead but calm at ground level.
You surfers will know it but Siargao Island is directly in the path with Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Biliran Island also on the path of the eye.
As it turns out tomorrow morning is when we will be most affected but if it keeps its current trajectory we won't have the same degree of winds.
We have already had our first power blackout and I am not sure how long it will last this time.
I will get another update in the morning.
Cheers
