If they cancel your citizenship, then I think they could. But that would be the only way Centrelink could affect it. Knowing that you were on a DSP and therefore not well and in need of treatment, then I think they would definately advise Medicare the moment they have cancelled all of your rights as an Australian citizen. Maybe that is why they want to be linked to Medicare, so they can see how many times we visit our GP's, and be made aware of any tests we have, and the results. I think you mean Residency not Citizenship ;D

No, I'm sure they can't cancel it but it would be interesting to find out if a non-resident is entitled to one by Medicare's rules? I'll check next week, maybe ring today. When I was informed in 2008 that I had lost my Residency, I was also told by C/L that I was no longer entitled to Medicare. I argued that a person on DSP was sick and needed Medicare.....Her response "Bad Luck" I was dealing with a right bitch... I think you will find a lot of this in Bankers Story. I Checked with Medicare and they told me I was no longer entitled to Medicare as I was no longer a Resident. Also not entitled to any concession card.

I agree, we are actually being discriminated, even though we are Australian.

Im sure it says on Medicare web site that you can only get Medicare if your a resident. All of the Government departments are connected by computer, including Immigration, Medicare, AFP Customs etc etc.

I'm not going to go in and beg for any special payments, I think that is what they want. I want what they HAVE to give me by the law of this country, not what I have to go in with my cap in my hand and ask for.

Its only a one off payment, so best to wait until they have you at that stage, before you try to use it. Most probably they would find a way to deny it anyway.
Same with the Low Income Health Care card. The first time I asked for one, when I was refusing to sign up for Newstart, their first question was 'where did I hear about that'. It was in general conversation with a lady who was retiring from work.
I was then told that I could not have one. I responded that surely no income must qualify as low income. But that argument was not valid.
The next time I asked, I was issued one on the spot. But then that turned out to be the same day they cancelled my DSP application, so again, they always find a way to get at you.

Not too much assistance can be expected from our MPs.
Thank you for your email to Kate (Kate Ellis MP) concerning the cessation of your DSP from Centrelink. I have contacted Centrelink and have been advised that you have instigated an appeal against this decision, which is certainly a step in the right direction. Until there is a decision by the review panel on this issue, there unfortunately isn’t much that Kate is able to do. I have also asked about any other type of payment for which you might be eligible, though it appears there isn’t. In the interim, you could try approaching the Salvation Army or St Vincent de Paul for any practical help with food etc should you require it.

If I was to go to St Vinnies or Red Shield or If I could get an appointment with a Social Worker I would be taking a copy of this letter with me, just to help prove what is going on.

This is making me sick that our government can do this to one of our citizens. They are doing it to more than just one Australian....

Here's another of my adventures through the wilds of welfare this week. Maybe it is just me, I have always had a weird life.
I go off to this new GP last week, to establish a relationship and because I have been sent some forms from social housing. Seems they want to bump me up the list a bit, based on the latest specialist diagnosis, and because I had finally found myself a rental I could afford. Or maybe it is because I have finally got all the proof of my allegations of corruption
I didn't take the forms with me, because I wanted to complete the forms to have my records transferred there, so he could see the specialists letter. The specialist had refused to give me a copy when I said I didn't have a GP anymore, so I had to do it this way.
I also wanted my chronic pain management program renewed for this year. You have to see the GP's nurse to organise the paperwork for that.
So the GP asks me if I drink alcohol. I reply in the negative. The nurse I saw this week, asks the same question and receives the same reply.
I look through the new way they present all the information now, a 'Care Plan,' looking for stuff to copy to keep for Centrelink. The nurse has recorded that I have made a goal with the GP to try to cut down to only one glass of alcohol per day. It states the GP is to monitor me in this.
I am glad I hadn't followed procedure and had an appointment with the GP right after for him to sign off on the paperwork. I have one tomorrow to have him fill out the social housing form, and will instruct him to reprint the care plan, minus the misinformation. I am getting a bit touchy about false records about myself these days.
The nurse had also asked what medication I was on. I replied that I had been on the wrong stuff for two years, and had recently given it up. I also stated this new GP had given me a script, but I forgot to have it filled.
She got stuck into me, that my DSP would not be renewed at its next review if I did not take the medication. I replied that I hadn't made the decision yet, as the side affects were pretty severe. She scolded me that yes, despite the fact that I will develop diabetes while on the medication and that my skin will thin (whatever that means), and my own concern that it screws with your mind, that Centrelink will require me to take it, or else. She told me that it is the cure for Fibro Myalgia.
The Arthritis Specialist I attended a couple of months ago, told me there was no cure, and all I could do was light exercise each day to try to keep my body limber. My Osteo advised me to walk for my lower back, which I try to do each day.
Yet, the care plan this nurse prepared for me states that I do not do any exercise. She didn't even ask me if I did. So, does that not disqualify me from DSP for not doing what my two specialists advised for treatment?
I have to take the pills with severe side affects, because Centrelink wants me to? Wtf is happening to this country?

I feel your pain... My standard response to "have you been working?" is "If I could work I wouldn't be putting up with this crap".

The day that Centrelink is allowed to use SWAT teams and tanks, is the day that I WILL move overseas. Ten hour siege, a SWAT team... and a TANK: How police dealt with mother who refused to give her child medicationA mother was involved in a ten-hour stand-off with a police SWAT team after refusing to give her child some medication. Maryanne Godboldo, from Detroit, was accused of medically neglecting her 13-year-old daughter Ariana by not administering her with an anti-psychotic drug. Staff from the Child Protective Services, accompanied by police, turned up at Godboldo's home to take her child into state care. A SWAT team then descended on the 56-year-old woman's house with a tank and automatic rifles after she was accused of firing a gun at police officers. After a ten-hour stand-off, which resulted in the mother giving herself up, Ariana was taken into protective custody. I dont think we will have to wait too long for this kind of thing to start happening in Australia........People are fed up with all of the C/L and Government B/S.
I should have used a proxy because now ASIO will be looking for me.
