'Meanwhile, former Australian of the Year Patrick McGorry has told the government’s welfare review that as many as nine out of 10 disability support pensioners with mental illness could work if given the right specialist support'.
This will never happen as the cost of the 'specialist support' would be far to high.

Even if 9 out of 10 could work, where the hell will the jobs come from when theres high and rising unemployment , theres almost 1 million healthy people that cant find work, the bastards are only after the savings of shifting them onto newstart where most will stay, specialist support- bullshit, they probably mean the useless money grabbing job networks. The artlicle says there will be huge numbers rorting the DSP because its higher then newstart, do they think any healthy person can just turn up at a doctors surgery pretenting to be disabled and the doctor says where do l sign and that's it. Those new changes in 2011, even really seriously disabled people the DSP is very difficult to get, let alone some rorter.

Watch the suicide rate jump when they start liberating the mentally ill....It happened in the UK.
Also I very much doubt that there are many mentally ill people on the DSP who are rorting the system, psychologists and psychiatrists are trained to read people and I'm sure they can spot fakers a mile off.

As I previously mentioned I have a parent with a serious mental illness who applied and was approved for the DSP only last year. As their full time carer I take them to all their doctors appointments, shopping trips, to pay the bills. Things can become very overwhelming for me sometimes. They do not drive or leave the house without me because of their condition. How do these so called professionals who work with mentally ill people not understand how debilitating a mental illness is. Not everyone with a mental can work and they are not rorting the system.

The saddest part is to realise that 'the system' has no idea whatsoever. If I may interpret from different things you have said then I will say "Well done dani". Rightly or wrongly I think I know a little bit about what you are saying.
