If anybody is interested, i just did an air asia search for my yearly return to Melbourne in 2016 when the smoke engulfs north Thailand from mid Feb to mid April. in mid Feb there were one way flights available from K.L. for around A$130.00. You still need to get to K.L. but if you bus or train it then it still works out very cheap. Obviously you need to have your dates sorted as there is usually no refund.

I think they are trying to be like Jetstar competing for the Asia market They are constantly cancelling flights As more airlines are competing for all routes Malaysian Airlines is also feeling the pinch Who will survive?

Anyone wanting to fly K.L. to Mel one way in mid march can get it for less than A$20.00 i just saw on airasia.com Amazing how cheap they are at times and then other times more expensive than full service airlines. Best advice is take it as soon as you see it though as they dont seem to last. I'm in tears as I paid A$140.00 three months ago thinking it was a deal. Ha Ha.

LOL.
Two golden rules of travel Nomadic, never check fares after you've booked and never look in the next currency exchange window after you've changed your money.

I think with a lot of promotion flights they offer a certain number of seats at the promotion price then once they are gone it's taken off the page. I think the way to do it is subscribe to their email offers and book as soon as possible. I never saw the particular promotion as I usually delete the emails unread unless I'm planning a trip.

Agree BanjoI subscribe to Cebu Pacific and AirAsia but I don't always read them other than to keep an eye on 'how low can they go'. My personal observation about promotions is that they will do it if seat sales are slow because they have to have 'bums on seats' so to speak. But they probably only offer 10 or 20 maximum at a 'crazy' price at any one promotional deal for a flight. Plus they may run more than one promotion per flight.

I suppose that's why off season prices are lower, especially in hotels.

I suppose that's why off season prices are lower, especially in hotels. Banjo I believe that's right. The figuring is that you are are better off getting some money than no money because your fixed costs remain the same whether you have no-one on the plane or in the accommodation house or if it is full house, so to speak.

Sincere apologies to all especially immiadvice. My eyes failed me again as I thought it was 499 Thai baht but was actually 499 in Malay Ringitt. So still about the same as i paid in June which is still amazingly cheap. But around A$140.00 instead of A$15.00. So yes Banjo I will give up looking at prices and exchange rates after the event.
