Beats me Ghostie, unless you've been investigated in the past and someone gave it to them. It took them three goes to get my account number right when I sent it.

Well good grief, checked my Philippine bank account just now and the money is there. I honestly don`t know how they got my account here because i still have the form: AUS178 filled out but not sent yet. Amazing!!!! Wow That a real concern Maybe they are having communication with the banks in Philippines ? Wonder if they are doing the same in Thailand I have not changed my account yet A friend says that he has been her 12 years He ignores there requests I will keep doing my thing Until they stop me For my own reasons

I constantly advise people that if you keep your dealings with Centrelink open and honest they have to work really hard to pin anything on you.

Centrelink rang me yesterday and i asked the girl how they got my overseas account. She put me on hold and when she returned i was told that she will look into it and get back to me. I won`t be holding my breath.

There's no suggestion that they looked into it, they just happen to know of it and the account number.

iam just using common sense. did they just told u u had PI bank account or did they give u name of bank and account number? very unlikely they call banks around the globe and get information... breach of laws.. could be costly...

If you read the thread Tom you will see that they paid money into his PI account, very difficult to do without the name of the bank and the account number.
Never took me very long to get tired of you this time around. Bye bye.

How about this, You have given clink access to your bank account, they see that you transfer funds to your os account, they use that account because it's in your name.

This is from 2008. The federal government is cracking down on dole cheats by allowing Centrelink investigators easier access to welfare recipients' private bank accounts. "As you would expect, where there are suspicions of fraud or welfare cheating going on, the Australian government, through Centrelink, does have the power to request information from ... financial institutions." www.theage.com.au/news/national/centrelink-to-be-given-access-to-customers-bank-details/2008/05/17/1210765238609.htmlI don't believe they would send money to anyone that's out of the country without accessing their accounts and this would apply to anyone wanting portability.

Don't forget 2 things.
1. Up until a year or 2 ago The Philippines was one of the largest centres for secret bank accounts. They were the Asian Switzerland.
2. USA made a law that forces, and I do mean forces, banks internal and external to the USA to report the account balances outside the USA to the US IRA, or one of them.
The Philippines were so frightened by the potential abandonment of them by the USA that they quickly came to heel and supplied the USA Government with the bank account number and balance of every single 'joe'.
Australia and USA share ALL taxation information.
If you want a bank account that will not be read by one of the '5 eyes', and others, then open an account with the Bank of China.
